The venue area is very functional, lots of space for a setup of differing options, and lots of room for catering setup depending on how creative the catering company is. It's perfect for small childrens birthday parties, as there's a play area with plastic play furniture available for use, and an indoor kitchen and dining area for the adults - and a plan b, if the weather turns bad. If you don't mind the slight age of the building, and the possible stale smell in side, the outdoor area will be a great treat! It's a cheap hire for the day, at roughly $100 on the weekend, and there's ample space to set up your bbq, and put on a great kiddies birthday party.

For parties, there is a room at the front for the kids to sit down and eat. For this private event, the hosts were allowed to have catering for the adults to eat. Peppa pig also made an appearance - the kids loved it!

Felt like a big nightclub with a circular bar in the middle. Drinks were great but the canapés were appalling. Some canapés you would've thought would be hot were served cold. Wtf indeed! For those thinking of booking Carriageworks as a party venue, be careful with the catering or you will end up with a drunken bunch of unhappy guests!

Kookaburras making love!…read more Is what I saw both times I attended a wedding at this virgin pure venue. Tucked down in a pocket of secluded bush between Bradley's Head and Taronga Zoo, this is a find indeed, a vintage gem of a place where the wedding is held out on a gently sloping grass lawn flanked by paternal gumtrees and the Harbour Bridge lit up by the sunset across the water in the background. Athol Hall used to be a dance hall. Back in the '50s sensible partygoers (they were the only kind that existed back then) would jump in a boat and be ferried across to the Hall, where the women would expose their ankles and the men would swoon and they'd all do a sock hop or a jive or something until the wee hours and then the boat would take them away again. I imagine it wouldn't come cheap, but can you really put a price on taking your vows while benevolent kookaburras make glorious coitus in the boughs above?

Endless posh club facilities - which you can't enjoy unless you get signed in by a member. Get past the gate, and it feels kinda French Riviera outside on the deck... lounging around on plush white couches... next to the water festooned with gleaming luxury vessels. Down a little too much Veuve, stroll along the pier and make like a millionaire as you consider you're next floating investment. Just try and narrow it down to one. Then return to the bar and drink a little more Veuve... cool off in the harbourside pool and grab a leisurely lunch in the uber chic restaurant. A relatively recent restaurant fit out by Mike McCann of Concrete Blonde fame feels timeless, elegant and a little bit Colorado cabin on the water come winter with timber panelled walls and open fireplaces. Of course, the panoramic views of Sydney Harbour is a constant reminder that you are not in fact in Colorado... but the contrast works well nevertheless. Summer Sundays seafood buffets are a must. How many prawns can one consume in a single sitting? Only one way to find out. There once were jet skis on offer for endless Harbour fun, until Bob Carr put a lid on them. Cheers Bob. All that salt air and buffeting wind is good for the soul but you're bound to show a few cracks here and there, and a few other places besides. Regular beachgoers won't know how much a part of the community this place is, there's function rooms where kids learn karate, a resident theatre troop (the Bondi Rock Surfers) and tons of events throughout the year, from pop-up bars to an ice skating rink to open-air cinema to Bondi Feast Festival. There's talk every year of a mega refurb, but who knows when that'll happen. Long may she reign.

The Pavilion plays host to annual events like Festival of The Winds, Beats on The Beach on NYE, the South American Festival, Flickerfest, Bondi Open Air Cinema and many other cool cultural activities. As well it is home to a Gallery, Marine Centre, an amphitheatre as well as an indoor theatre, classes, a youth programme... you get the idea. Various local businesses are lucky enough to be housed under its high ceilings and ever-importantly, if you're looking for a bathroom, changing room or locker on Bondi Beach this is where you'll find them.
