Beyond the museum itself, which rotates shows/exhibitions regularly, the Hockaday Museum of Art is at the forefront of the art world in the Glacier Park, western, Montana history and contemporary art scene, here in Montana. They host: Arts in The Park, Plein air Glacier, artists retreats and a variety of youth art classes, to name a few. Along with their extensive list of contemporary artists who show their work at the Museum, they have a very impressive permanent collection. (Check their website or social media for exhibition dates and scheduled events). Better yet, stop-in and meet their welcoming and knowledgeable staff. As a member and a supporter of the museum, I highly encourage everyone, especially those in our small town community, to visit the museum, frequently check in to see what's new and find ways to get involved and support the many, many talented Montana artists!

We didn't have a bad time at our classes but it wasn't good either…read more This is more of a place that you go when you already know what you're doing & just want to rent wheel time & don't care how long it takes to get ahold of people or get your stuff back. They do have decent supplies & wheels. But seriously, don't get your hopes up about getting back your items at all or if you do, get them with in a timely manner. 4, 5, 6 months when they promise 2 weeks is absurd. They do have classes, workshops, privates & groups etc but they aren't good at this model. I've been to many workshops around the US & these are mediocre at the best. Work room is really small, hope you're not claustrophobic. HORRIBLE communication from the owners. They get your money & then refuse to call, text, email about anything.... Including when they cancel classes & decide to randomly close the shop. So you end up driving 90 minutes (ONE WAY) just to find your already paid for class canceled. Refused to communicate about rescheduling those cancelled classes (that we already paid for). They refuse to update you when things are ready, absolutely refuse to return calls, texts or emails (been trying for months now). I know you're think "just go down there". It's 90 minutes one way for me & the shop is open weird hours & every time we have been down there during their posted open hours, no one is there. Crappy customer service.

In 2013 I spent hundreds of dollars having Kalispell Art Casting apply a patina to one of my bronze…read moresculptures. After only 6 months in an outdoor show the patina and lacquer finish had totally deteriorated ruining any chance I had of making a positive impact in a new market area. Upon notifying the foundry that their patina had failed I was basically told tough luck because I had approved the patina upon completion. Of course I did; it looked good at day one. Until doing business with KAC I had never heard of a foundry that wouldn't warrantee its patinas for at least 12 mo. I had also never dealt with a foundry that wasn't extremely conscientious about its collaborations with all of their artists. Well I know of one now. I didn't spend enough money for them to grow a conscience or even half ways give a s__t before sending me down the road.
