The best fish and chips in Oxfordshire?
The haddock (cooked to order) and chips are a delight!!!
This is an establishment which can at best be described as inauspicious, but there is no mistaking the smell of good fish and chips and so I did not bow to the contradictions subsequently presented by the appearance of either the premises or the food in the heated cabinet. Having visited parts of Oxfordshire for the best part of 25 years, I have long been convinced that good fish and chips were not to be had. To be sure, there are always restaurants who can provide the over-dear, under-good, poncey versions of a best-when-basic meal, but when it comes to serving up the good old-fashioned takeaway, (not to-go, please note), version, Oxfordshire fails to impress.
Anyway, I digress, and need only say that the haddock and chips I obtained from Camara's of Wantage, for the princely sum of £5.10, were the best I have ever eaten in Oxfordshire, and would bravely hold their own against some of my all-time favourites, including those of the famous Weatherby Whaler of Yorkshire, a more personal choice of McGuire's of Swalwell and a more recent discovery of June's Fish Bar of Shanklin Old Village, Isle of Wight. read more
