A visitor to the island for many years I have watched Calypso change hands and with it change the atmosphere. The newer (a couple years now) owners started very well and have brought in some great clothing options which have been needed for some time. The negatives would be they have crammed the store with options. You don't have certain items with a rotating inventory as a boutique normally would - it is more and more becoming like one of the T-shirt traps with so much in the store you can hardly walk through. On top of that the staff is not quite what you would expect. T-shirts and jeans seems to be an approved work attire. There seems to be no regard for the brands sold at the store or the clientele coming in. I was greeted very kindly by a young lady who I thought might be a customer on her way out to then be nearly confronted by another lady who took the items out of my hand I was considering trying on and with attitude told me, did not ask - I will put these in a room for you. What if I didn't want a room? This while she gave me a look and then turned with what I had and walked off. In the end I found it very much boutique prices with bad attitude employee who are rude to the customers and seemed to be frustrated they even had to be there to work. Even with the very large addition of great merchandise - I am not thinking I will be returning any time soon. Unfortunate for a business that has been around so long to decline so fast to be just another shop. read more

As guided there by a shop-girl at On The Beach for a rain jacket ahead of a fishing excursion tomorrow, I was pleasantly surprised to find high quality jackets available. The sweet lady at Calypso suggested I might want one of the tailored-to-an-hour-glass-figure pink version of the jacket I chose. I responded I find function serves over fashion when outdoors. If not for the (not Calypso's fault I know) double standard in outer wear, I'd give this place 5 stars. Thanks to both OTB and Calypso for helping me out just in the nick of time. read more

I stopped thinking that because they had better brands there would be better service that went along with it. I was very wrong in my assumption. We bought quite a bit BECAUSE of the brands they carry. We needed sandals for fun and comfort and clothing for a nice dinner that evening. Our things had gotten wet. The clerk was not friendly. She actually seemed agitated that we were in the store. And when my husband wanted to wear his shoes he's picked out she about came unglued. She literally got down on the floor to try and get them off of him. Strangest thing I'd seen in a very long time. Especially since my husband had been quiet, respectful and had done NOTHING to warrant her behavior besides want dry shoes on his feet. She sighed heavily at my husband as we made our purchase. I have no idea what we did to this woman besides give her a great sale. We stopped happy that day and left confused. What a rude woman. If she was judging us, thinking we were not the kind of people who should be in this store, all I have to say is Yes, Ma'am, I was thinking the very same thing about you when I first set eyes on you. And then you ended up being so much worse than expected. So sad. read more

As soon as I walked in as a Hispanic, the lady in the front counter looked at me sort of strange and did not say hello. Unfortunately, after me a white person came in and the lady at the counter did acknowledge her by saying, "good afternoon and please let me know if I can help you." read more

We went in because the clothing on the windows looked really nice. This store does have very nice, quality merchandise. However, the two women who were working never even said hello to us. They were having a very lengthy conversation about some personal situation that was obviously more important than greeting customers. Then, my husband found a shirt he liked. While he was looking at sizes, I looked at a different size and found a price of $29.99. When we took the shirt to the counter to buy, it rang up $48. I mentioned the $29.99 price to the sales lady and she asked me if I had seen it on another identical shirt. I retrieved the shirt and she told me that price was wrong, and the $48 was their price. She would not honor the price on the identical shirt so we left. read more

Stopped by this store twice and liked their merchandise selection / but the prices are fairly high....and the service is abysmal. What disappointed us was the attitude of one of the owner/managers. We were buying $300 worth of merchandise and their internet went down. I asked if she could call the credit card company and take our card the old fashioned way. She wouldn't answer my question .... which was a simple one. She acted like it was a big hassle and asked if we could come back later when the Internet would be fixed. Anyone who asks a customer to go out of their way to solve the retailers problem is really lacking in customer service skills. So - we finally got her to do it the old fashioned way and you would have thought she was doing us a BIG favor taking our money. Never said she was sorry and never said thank you. Guess what? We will NEVER enter her store again and we have told many others of our experience. Bottom line / if you want good service and a friendly attitude and someone grateful for your business - look elsewhere. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. I went in my husband and 3 kids (14, 9, and 2). After making our purchase, of course, the older man behind the counter, who said he was the owner, decided it was a good idea to pull my husband aside and lecture him on the 2 year old's behavior. Mind you, I am consistently complimented on my children's behavior and had just been complimented the day before and on top of that, I was holding her in my arms the majority of the time and when not it my arms, I was holding her hand and keeping merchandise out of her hands as I was not shopping. Back to the story, the lecture began in an unbelievably condescending tone as he told my husband she was making a mess and banging items. (She was not.) My husband asked if she damaged anything to which he responded "I don't know." I let him know that she did not as she was never out of my sight. He completely ignored me. As the lecture continued my husband finally just said "Point taken" to which this man decided he should continue his lecture and end with "You should learn respect." At that point I stepped in and told him "As should you, sir." This man, finally acknowledged me, turned around and told me in the most condescending tone and facial expression he could muster up "Don't try to argue with me young lady." To which I responded "No, you don't try to argue with me." At which point my husband ushered me out the door. Needless to say, they are rude and we will never shop there again and we are making it our mission to make everyone aware of this horribly rude man. Sir, if you don't want kids in your store, how about putting up a sign or asking us to leave the store before spending our money there. read more

Great little store. Very friendly and helpful! Found some great quality shirts. Prices are higher than the "tshirt shops" but the quality is better too! The only down side was they were out of small and medium sizes in a lot of shirts due to spring breaks rush. They were able to point us to other stores we wanted to find on the island. read more

Cute display in windows - however - the displayed hats are NOT for sale! Salesperson told us many people had stopped in to ask but they had sold out and the remaining hats were for display only. Strange way to sell clothing. read more
