This camp is amazing if your looking for a place to feel refreshed and renewed. The staff have always been friendly, professional and caring. We have sent our children up for camp over the summer and both my husband and I have attended several retreats. This is a place where you come home with a renewed and refreshed soul. God meets you at Calvin Crest you are surrounded by his glory, grace, and love. The accommodations are family friendly clean and tidy. The food is amazing the kitchen crew accommodates for any food allergies and different diets. They will prepare food to accommodate vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, dairy free, nut free guest staying at the lodge. They keep the children busy with great activities and time to enjoy the camp. Very disappointed. We arrived and nobody was even there to greet my daughter in her cabin.

Attended an improv comedy weekend camp here. Very beautiful location. I stayed in one of the basic cabins. I was comfortable. The cabin was very simple and rustic but clean and very pleasant. The WiFi is very unreliable, the coffee weak, but the dining and recreational facilities are great. Also, this place is about an hour and a half away from Yosemite National Park. read more

if I could do 0 stars I would. So I came here this past weekend with my family for our yearly Easter family reunion. Well I stayed in a cabin and over the weekend I kept getting new big bites, came to realize Saturday night the cabin I was in was infested with bed bugs. They moved us to a new cabin which was not even inspected before moving us. And I woke up with even more bites the following day. I have over 30 bites throughout my body. This place is dirty and doesn't fully clean their rooms. They had no remorse or apology after this happened to me. A truly magical place. If you do not have kids to send to their wonderful camps (elementary-high school) consider staying for a weekend (or even a week) getaway. I grew up coming here every summer for camp and have returned several times over the past 10 years to get away and relax. The area is absolutely beautiful. You are completely surrounded by nature. There are so many different hiking trails and things to see nearby. The drive into town takes about 25 minutes so you aren't far from the real world but it is nice to get away. You can also spend a day exploring Fresno Dome (using a car to get there). The lakes, ponds and rivers are gorgeous. They have a pool and gift shop on property. They also have a kitchen but due to COVID there are not meals being made in large right now. Guests all have equipment in their rooms to make breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's always nice to pack a sandwich and go on a hike! Keep in mind this is not a luxury hotel. It is a nice and simple lodge offering everything you need and no extra fluffing. I was here for a women's church retreat and really wanted to like this place but there are so many negatives, it made me walk away feeling sad for this camp. I do want to say that the staff is wonderful and friendly. Mary is a fun spirit but I really got tired of her saying Um, Um, Um over and over again. I found it very distracting. Lucinda is a very nice speaker soft spoken, unsure of herself but very knowledgeable. She does tend to ramble, chases rabbits and has to reel herself back to the topic. Being very soft spoken, many women found her message churchy and boring. Women attend retreats to hear uplifting fun messages with laughter. On the Sunday we left there was no message it was rambling to fill a void of time until brunch. Let's move on to the food. If this was a restaurant it wouldn't last a week. It's fine for kids summer camp but not adult retreats. Like for instance not giving you bowls for cereal and yogurt. We had tough tri tip, over cooked potatoes, burned French toast, under cooked bacon, powdered eggs and very few choices at our meals. Our Friday meal was warm fish with all cold sides placed on ice cold plates. Many of the women wanted another choice of protein as well as I. We had to eat cereal from the kids plastic peel off the lid plastic packaging. Why not give us bowls, after all, we are adults. Watered down coffee and then no coffee. They lack the ability to pay attention to details. Coffee creamers, brewed coffee, cups etc....were always in need of filling. I was so disappointed because If you wanted a comfortable chair to sit and read, you didn't find it here. They had metal seating for 8 people to sit and enjoy the sun. We were told they had espresso drinks.....but not until 2-5pm on Saturday and then of course not on our weekend. They only served milkshakes and Italian ice drinks. I really was upset that we were not told to bring snacks because meals are hours apart with not even fruit to snack on between meals. It would be nice if their General Store had been stocked with snacks and not just candy and T-Shirts. I did not come to a women's retreat to have the speakers husband speak. It is a women's retreat for a reason. Even the director had to attend a meeting and throw his 2 cents in. I'm not a man basher but it was as if the men of the camp felt like the women could not deliver and create a Godly message without them. I am 64 and have been to many retreats as well as created and planned retreats. Calvin Crest is not a high caliber camp facility. They do not understand that attention to even the small details can really make it a pleasurable get away for people. For example: when laying out the buffet line, do not serve us like we are camp kids. Make the buffet table pretty and desirable to the eye at all meals not just brunch. We are women and we enjoy these things. read more

This is one of those special places in the world where you can actually feel yourself getting closer to God. We have been sending our kids plus our extended family up there for years. It isn't all about the bells and whistles, it's about people making you feel like they really want to get to know you. The trails are beautiful. The food is always great. For a men's retreat they made sure that a group of grown dudes who were mountain air hungry always felt full. Plus, they will accommodate many different dietary needs. For our family we challenged them with vegetarian needs and gluten free and they nailed it.
