But I left the church…read more I had a concern and a question for pastor Andy about something he preached about, and he even said during that service that if anyone had a question, they could ask him. I tried and I couldn't get ahold of him. So he says one thing and does another. Only his office got back to me after I emailed a few times and they didn't even answer my questions properly. They didn't connect me with Andy. I also noticed Andy was political. Things he sometimes says and especially things he posted on his Instagram. Politics is a big no in a church. He says he is not being political but again - he says one thing and does another. And he sometimes preaches in a way that divides people and drives them away. He says one day he will stand in front of our God and will have to answer His questions, so he says he tries to live by the Bible. And yes, he will have to answer one day. I hope he tries to be a good Christian and maybe just needs to learn what it really means and what Jesus would do. Very disappointing and sad. Hopefully that will change one day.

Misleading Branding - Highly Charismatic Atmosphere I…read moreattended a service here because Oceans Church brands itself as "non-denominational." However, visitors should be aware that this is a highly intense, emotionally charged Charismatic/Pentecostal environment. As someone with childhood trauma from Charismatic churches--where I experienced high-pressure tactics like being pushed down to be "slain in the spirit" and intense emotional manipulation--walking into this service was incredibly triggering. The atmosphere relies heavily on emotional highs and a tremendous amount of pressure to conform. I was so overwhelmed by the anxiety and pressure in the room that I spent the service praying just to escape it. If you are a spiritual trauma survivor, or if you prefer a standard non-denominational service (like Mariners), please be warned: Oceans is a "Spirit-filled" Charismatic church in practice, despite what their marketing says. Their lack of transparent branding is deceptive and unsafe for people healing from religious trauma.

I knew GCC was the "right place" as the messages from the pulpit were directly from the Bible and so often it felt as if they were just for 'me'. I also began attending a Sunday School class with such terrific leadership and teaching that most of the class began to be my new 'family'. When I first moved here, during the week I often felt that I was 'all alone' yet surrounded by seven million people and Grace was the only place I felt comfortable around friends. Now I enjoying serving in a small leadership role in the church, work on the Sound Team, and participate in other activities and truly love all that Grace has to offer. There currently isn't much of a young adult community, but the leadership and congregation have been supportive of growing the college and young adult groups by providing a space to meet and sponsoring meals. The congregation consists of families of all ages; room and friends for everyone! The music is fairly lit.
