If I could give this church a ZERO I would! DO NOT EVER COME HERE, DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE DISCRIMINATED & DISRESPECTED! I just left a meeting with pastor Glen to plan my grandparents funeral.. I originally chose this church because my mom attended here for the last 20 years.. she left due to discrepancies in teachings & discriminatory remarks made against criminals, the lgbtq community, amongst many other things.. during the meeting he proceeded to ask me for my beliefs, if I attend church, etc. I explained to him that I recently moved to the IE & have yet to find a church to attend. He then asked my partner who is a female, and she told him she was raised as a Mormon and is here to support me & my family. He diverted from planning my grandparents funeral to an immediate response of "You know you're going to hell right?" Told her that she's a heathen, that she should consider removing her tattoos because those are a sin as well but that in itself won't eradicate her sin of being a Mormon.. said that because of her belief she clearly doesn't believe in God & that if she doesn't convert to Christianity when she dies God is going to tell her he doesn't know her & she will have to deal with those consequences. Even had the audacity to ask her when she gets to the gates and God asks her why she thinks she should be let in, what she would say.. & with a respectful response she replied saying she would tell Him she is a Child of God.. he immediately cut her off & told her that she is not a Child of God & whatever she's been taught she believes in whatever God they made up.. After about 10 minutes of the most uncomfortable conversation, she kept her composure & stayed silent.. he smirked once he finished talking and sarcastically said "Oh I made her mad didn't I?" At the end of the day God doesn't teach us to judge one another, regardless of who you are or what religion you believe in. Matthew 7:1! He teaches love & understanding, & in the 30 minutes that we had to endure with this man.. I have never felt so belittled in my life, for a man like this to be guiding people to God is crazy!!! HE ISN'T BEING USED AS GODS INSTRUMENT & NO ONE SHOULD FOLLOW OR LISTEN TO HIM! I WILL NEVER COME BACK! read more

I came to this Church about a month ago and all I can say is Pastor Art is awesome he truly gives you God's word does not sugar coated which is great . Very family vibes in case you are raising a small family perfect place to all grow together and draw closer to the Lord. After much prayer me and my Husband made this now our Home Church can't see what God has in store for us. read more

Someone left a review on here saying this church shouldn't be considered because they held a Charlie Kirk memorial but if you're fixated on worldly trends of being against Charlie Kirk, then by all means stay away from the house of the lord. Pastor Reyes acknowledged him in our church because he preached Gods word and never once treated any one horribly. This place is Gods hands and we welcome anyone who wants to follow God ! I wish I could give zero stars. I went to school here and this place is toxic. A sad excuse for a spiritual school, it more closely resembles a cult. They "teach" God's love by instilling fear into innocent children. They told us crazy bizarre things like watching Harry Potter would invite the devil to tempt us because it's a movie about witchcraft. Instead of teaching history in HISTORY class, the history teacher spent a semester out of the year teaching the book of revelations. In retrospect, had I been my parents I would've reported them to the state for this. They should NOT be receiving a penny of tax payer state dollars, they fail so poorly as an educational institute teaching only from a biased lense. They expelled a friend of mine for being gay (they are soooo scared of LGBTQ ppl it's pathetic). They expelled me because of a stupid cell phone rule where I had my phone out after the 1st bell rang. I was such a good student. Kind, quiet, good grades, respectful and they sat me in that office and looked my 12 year old self in the face and told me I was no longer welcomed there, then FORCED ME TO PRAY FOR FORGIVENESS OUT LOUD. This school is evil. If the devil exists and is anywhere, it's there in those ugly a$$ beige halls. Oh yeah they also made my parents pay the entire year of tuition even though I got zero instruction for the last 3 months where I basically taught myself at home without an instructor. My family and I came to get connected and hear the word of God, however that was NOT the case. It was our first time ever, so I dropped my 3 year old off in Sunday school; then went with my 1 year old into the sanctuary to enjoy the service. Unfortunately, upon entering the sanctuary, we were followed in by 2 male workers who told me I could not be in there with my baby. They said I had to go in the other room since I had my little one with me. However, the nursery they sent me to only had a tv screen and the whole point of attending church was to fellowship with others and hear the word of God in person. (I could've stayed home and watched it on my TV, but I didn't for a reason) Had my baby woken up or gotten loud in the sanctuary, I would have gladly gone into the nursery to avoid disrupting others, but I did NOT appreciate being forced to sit in a whole different room when my baby was completely sound asleep. I instantly knew this was not a family friendly church at all. I grabbed my 3 year old and left, such a shame because the people in the Sunday school section were very friendly. I do NOT recommend this church if you are a nursing mother who wants to be able to sit in church with everyone else and hear the pastor in person, because they'll just ask you to leave. We will be trying a different church where my kids and I are welcome, and will be inspired by the word of God elsewhere. read more

I love calvary chapel because it teaches the full council of God. In this day and age there are so many pastors tickling peoples ears just teaching what people want to hear. A lot of pairs pastors these days care more about losing member and money that teaching biblical truth. The God of the Bible is not the God in our mind. Most people believe in a false god, a god that allows them to do whatever they want, speak however they want and still expect to go to heaven when they die. That is not the Almighty God that is idolatry, a false god. Lord may you speak to us and change our minds and our hearts. read more

It is an annual tradition of mine to attend Good Friday service here as I used to attend this church way back in the 1990's before moving out of the area. It was a lovely service as usual. Pastor Art Reyes message was great and having traditional hymns to sing (with contemporary music) was nice. Services at CCD are reverent and the fellowship is great. For those of us with Migraine, Epileptic, and other neurological issues, this church has worship music that is friendly without twirling, flashing lights, etc. to make you sick. Bravo! I had been here before back in 1996 and this year in 2010 I am back one more. Admittingly I was only here for a school assignment. Being an atheist for the most part of the past 14 years I was not exactly sure why I arrived. A few months ago I even posted on a yelp thread "commentary on organized religion". I needed to take one class which held up my long overdue degree in History, I took a saturday religious study class The parking was great and the church was very clean and well built. I was impressed by the seating, the audio and the overal design of the area for worship. The pastor was great, at times I felt the sermon to be dry but he inserted a funny joke to get us back into it. I saw many with bookmarks and note pads which I did not want to do. I wanted to feel the spirit and hear the word writing anything down. After the sermon and announcements we left. this sermon in to be continued, I may write on other parts of the church, I am not sure if I will return, maybe. read more

Calvary Chapel Downey was the church that first brought me to a saving knowledge of the cross of Jesus when I was in High School. Today I had the pleasure of attending Christmas Eve service with my brother and his family and it brought back very good memories. I met my first good friends in Christ there, and though I no longer attend, my brother had one of his girls attend through High School. Pastor Jeff with the guiding hand of the Lord has certainly built a church that meets the needs of the entire family. The teaching is Bible based with an emphasis on correct exegesis and a focus on helping believers understand the pillars of the faith. There is a wide assortment of services throughout the week, and also multiple service on Sunday so anyone can find something to fit their schedule. If anyone is looking for a good church in the greater Downey and surrounding areas, I would not hesitate to recommend Calvary Chapel Downey! God is good! read more

I called to ask if they take donations. The lady who answered the phone asked what kink of donations? I said clothing and she snapped back "we don't take clothing." In a snarky way. Taken a back a bit I remained calm and polite while I felt she was a bit rude in the way she was dounding. I said ok well I also have a couple of sleeping bags and she cut me off while still talking and snapped back again "we don't take sleeping bags either!" I said ok well why don't you tell me what you "DO TAKE" and she said we only take men's jackets and men's shoes. I said well I have some women's shoes and she said they have to be tennis shoes. I said why is that and she said because most of the women they serve are homeless and won't be walking around in heels." I wasn't going to get into an argument over that but it sounded strange to me. Then I said well do you take women's jackets or only men's jackets like you said and she Saud well women usually take tge men's jackets antmyway...lus there are more homeless men than women. I could have argued with that because I don't believe that to be true anyway but whatever I just wanted to be over the conversations with this rude woman by that time. She also mentioned they take blankets. I has asked is there a reason why you will take blankets but not sleeping bags and she said well you can call later and talk to pastor Jeff about it because I font know why they fo or do not take certain things. Wellmaybe I will call Pastor Heff but it won't be to ask why they font take retain items. It will be to comment on how rude and off putting his receptionist is. This was not my first encounter with her. I have called in the past for other reasons and have been met with the same bad attitude. My concern is that people will get a bad assumption of the entire church because I never want to attend tgat church after speaking with that woman. She seemed judgemental, cold, unkind and uncaring and I hope others don't have the experience I had. read more

The parenting class held on Tuesday nights is so bad. The whole experience is not worth it. Not only does security fallow you around and are unkind but the class itself is really bad. The instructor has even once announced to the class once that he would call his daughters vagina "kitten" being a woman and a mother myself comments like these are absolutely not acceptable!!!! I feel outraged. I've called the church office and have left several messages on not just this matter but things that are constantly happening. Tonight we were told we are not allowed to use the restroom. I've even offered to help but no one from the church calls back. Tho this was once my church and i loved it...I will never come back read more

This is a bless non denominational Christian church. Everyday they offer ministries and services. They range from food donations to anger management classes to mens bible study to Wednesday and Sunday service. They teach the Bible word for word and follow the Acts 2:42 structure. It is a big church but can be very small when going to different ministries like One in Christ (for singles) or One Accord (married couples). They have a bookstore that sells Bibles, books and others. There is also a cafe that provides a place to study or fellowship. They also have Wifi. If you are looking to feel peace in your heart and not have that empty feeling, this can be the place for you. read more

I hate to give a one star to a Christian organization but feel I have to. I went with someone today to register or ask a question in regards to the Tuesday classes they have. When you walk in their are signs saying "must wear mask" so why is is that the two girls and staff are not wearing masks and yet all enrollees are required to? There was a white female who helped the person I was with and I was appalled at how she talked to the people coming in asking she questions. She was extremely rude, she seemed bothered at the fact that she had to answer questions. He tone was very demeaning and plain out rude. There was a short heavy set gentlemen that came out from the back and yells for everyone to get back very unprofessional in my opinion. I understand they may or may not deal with people who are drug attics, anger management, or drug addiction court ordered enrollees however, it gives no excuse for the attitude and to be quite frank am appalled. I feel like the staff at the DMV are way more nicer than what I witnessed. And wear your masks if you make it a requirement upon entry you should lead by example. read more

Absolutely great church and school. God, family and country. That is exactly the order. English and Spanish service. Sunday school for pre k to high school age. Child care available for the majority of services, they also have a family friendly worship room if you would like to attend the service with your kids. Private room for new moms too. Very nice facility, focuses strictly on the word of God. read more

My son attended preschool and elementary here. I love the school, the amount of attention my son gets is great.The school is clean, safe and staff is friendly and qualified. I would gladly recommend cccs to any parent considering placing their child here. The communication between the teachers and parents is fantastic. If I had one critique, I would hope the tuition would drop a bit considering the uniforms and expensive yearly books needed for the school year. Not to mention the school supplies and the "account maintenance fee" assessed yearly. I try to look at the tuition as an investment,and the fact that God is incorporated in the kids studies its something I can't get at a public school. Overall I rate CCCS a 5 star school. read more
