The Cally Palace Hotel is located in the small town of Gatehouse-of-Fleet near Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway. It is a long established hotel which was once owned by Trust House Forte prior to it being taken over by the McMillan family in the early 80's. It is 70 bedrooms which are all tastefully decorated, a 15 metre pool and an 18 hole golf course. This is a quaint hotel that seems lost in a bygone age which is not necessarily a bad thing. I enjoyed sitting in one of the lounges taking tea and there are many others that do too. Although children are allowed here there are not a lot of them so there is a tranquil atmosphere. Even the guests that stay for the golf seem to have a bit more reserve than some others I have come across. The hotel offers a good base to explore the area which is a great touristy destination in the summer. Point to note the hotel closes after Hogmanay and reopens completely in the first week of March although weekend breaks may be available during January and February. read more
