The King Arms Hotel was very comfortable, clean, and hospitable!…read more On our journey 2014, we had left Belfast Ireland very late in the day on a Stena Line car ferry to cross the Irish Sea heading to Scotland. By the time we had arrived at Cairnryan Port Scotland it was very dark, but we decided to start driving the 200 mile trek from Cairnryan Port on the A77 roadway to Lochness Lake located approx (200) miles away. Being so very tired, and struggling to drive any further, we began looking for places to rest on the long dark roads around Ballantrae, this is when we stumbled upon the King Arms Hotel. The King Arms staff booked us in late without any trouble, were very polite and offered us a late night dinner and drinks. We ended up playing pool in the pub area, having drinks, and speaking to the locals in the pub about the history of the area. In the morning, in the dining room area, they had a very nice breakfast prepared for us to sustain us on our journey, the atmosphere was amazingly family like. It was a very unexpected and pleasant stop on our journey into Scotland! If you walk to the west of the main parking lot, there is a small trail which will lead you through a large grassy soccer field, this trail will take you to the shore of Ballantrae Bay, the trail is approximately 700 feet in length. The view in the morning hours was amazing!!!!! Definitely Recommend!

We came for a meal for my mums Birthday back in June. (Me, my husband, my two toddlers & baby, and my mum) The resturant is nicely laid out, smart and welcoming but not too posh. Alastair the owner? manager? was brilliant. He Waited on us perfectly, had a laugh with my 1.5 year old who kept wanting to offer Alastair food as he went past. Not even a hint of disapproving of us turning up with 3 wee children in tow! They gave us a wonderful big jug of iced water, and a selection of nibbles, rolls and dip to be getting on with while we waited for our meal. The bread rolls were scrumptious! I bet they were homebaked, certainly not like something out of a supermarket packet. My mum had the steak and it was absolutely gorgeous so she tells me. It was a decent portion size, and was cooked to perfection just like she asked. My husband had a curry and again a decent portion for the money, he loved his meal too. Kids loved their sausage meal, proper sausages too not cheapy rubbish. Now im the fussy one and there wasnt anything on the menu to my taste, as im not a big meat or fish person. There was nothing like a baked potato on the menu(yes ok so you cant take me anywhere, all the posh nosh and i wanted a spud and cheese lol). However Alastair was most acoomodating and managed to get the kitchen people to rustle me up one, if only 'Jim'll fix it' listened to my wishes as well as the Steam Packet staff did lol! The potato didnt disappoint, it was yummy. We enjoyed our meal and left happy and with full tummies. We will definately be back (though perhaps hubby should leave me at home with a spud in the microwave next time for embarrasing them heehee!)

And you can't beat having a drink on the harbour on a nice sunny afternoon (scotland DOES have sunny days occasionally!). I have had a variety of the foods off the menu and not one complaint to be had. Highly recommended.
