Advance Maintenance and Remodeling.i…read more I started renting in the Ithaca area in 2016. In April 2022 I purchased a home in the Ithaca area. Needing some remodeling work and never had to use a contractor in the Ithaca area, I started asking for a good contractor. I received Chris Eder as reference to use. From our first phone call, he was very professional. Chris was very punctual for our first meeting and after looking at the job that I wanted him to do, he gave me a written email estimate later that evening. Every day for work he was on time, and every day when he was done working, he always cleaned up debris or mess that he had made as if he had not even been there. I am very pleased. I have had Chris do several different jobs for me on my house and rental and he has never failed me. He has remodeled three bathrooms, trim work around floor and windows, carpet/vinyl flooring installation, subflooring, installed electric baseboard heating, ceiling lights, minor electrical work and building storage shelves in my garage for me. Chris is always accommodating around my work schedule when he does a job for me. He has never started a job and then left me hanging days before returning. Every time I have asked him to do a job on whatever days I am available Chris is always there on time, always professional, very reasonable and works harder than a beaver with dull teeth. I already have plans to use him in the future for my home and rental property.

We spoke with Matt back in August 2025, looking to have our driveway resurfaced. He came and…read morechecked things out - he was friendly and professional at the time, reviewing our concerns and confirming that a full excavation would not be needed, just a resurfacing. He discussed the process and told us what details he would look to do for our job. We later received a quote that was shockingly low - about 30% lower than the next cheapest, and three times (!) lower than the highest. Though we were tempted to move forward immediately, after discussing it with our neighbor (a professional excavator), my brother (a professional architect / builder), my cousin (a professional contractor), and a variety of other blacktop professionals on Reddit, we were advised to steer clear - everyone said the price was too good to be true and it was literally impossible to charge that rate unless something fishy was going on. We called Matt back and asked if he could return to discuss the project again in person - he declined, but over the phone reaffirmed the details of the work, saying that it would be 2", and that yes this was the price he was offering. By this point (October), the season was ending, but he said he would hold the price until the following year if we wanted to move forward. In early November, we attempted several times to call and accept the quote, but that was the last we heard from him. Never a call back or follow up, despite voicemails saying we wanted to accept the quote. Who knows what was going on here.
