I signed up for the four week intensive course to get my TEFL certificate (which had been…read morerecommended by several friends as the best way to teach English and one of the most recognised certifications globally). I was expecting a 9 - 5 scenario of turning up, getting a book to read and going home... Little did I realise that The Language House TEFL in Prague has trained over 3000 graduates and had their training down to a fine art. It required a lot of work, but that the trainers and staff were there to help out every step of the way offering to go the extra mile if ever I needed clarification or help with anything, for example lesson planning. By the end of the course I had learned so much and feel I am ready to teach English at all levels from private tutoring to a 30 students at once. They also offer housing and job assistance (from hints on your CV, being a reference, or just pointing you in the right direction). I honestly haven't met a group of people more passionate about what they do and so willing to help you have the best, most exciting time teaching abroad. As a bonus The Language House TEFL is located right in the middle of the historic part of Prague, which makes it a great place to experience this amazing city and a life (changing) experience you'll never forget.

The location is great if you live/work in the center, right next door to IP Pavlova tram and metro stop. I liked that this school has information posted everywhere in multiple languages, it was easy to get a hold of someone, easy to see their prices and course options. I was shocked that when I called, someone actually returned my calls to get me any information I needed. I like that the classes here are small, mine is 4 students, and that even though an A2 czech class should not be super challenging mine is because my teacher is only speaking czech. Most people would probably find this annoying and difficult but it really is the best way to learn a language and force yourself to think in it. So for that I really like their innovative approach. One downside here though is you need to have somewhat of a flexible schedule to get the times you really want for a specific class. The classes go once they have enough students and a teacher, not at the definitive level or time that you really want. I still think it is worth it to give them a call to see if/when they are starting classes if you are interested because they may have one starting that does fit with your schedule like mine did. Their classes are well below student average and price average form what I have compared locally. So if you can get your specified language/level and time then I think this is a really great choice for a language school in the center.

The experienced teaching staff, great location, reasonable price, a teacher's room full of valuable resources, and so much more made earning my TEFL certification at Live TEFL a great choice. The 4 weeks of lesson planning, student teaching, observation/feedback sessions, classroom modules, methodology, etc were so, so worth it! My two years of teaching in Prague is a cherished memory I will carry with me always. The school staff is always there to assist you with anything you might need. And there is just a very welcoming and comforting vibe at this school. The course itself is very challenging. Coming from a science background, it was much different than anything I've ever done. But I walked away with a sense of accomplishment and a confidence that I could step into the classroom the following day. Don't think twice about applying to Live TEFL Prague, it was probably the best decision I have ever made.

Don't expect to be told which classroom you are in, and expect to be held accountable if you are late because you can't find it. This is possibly an OK job if you are newly qualified and desperate for some experience. If you have more than a years teaching experience I would steer clear. The pay is worse than you can expect in most places and the teaching development and guidance you will receive isn't better than you average entry level job (and a lot worse the first TELF job i had). The course description for many classes is non existent or vague. When you are forced to ask someone for some kind of a clue as to what you should be doing, you will be treated a if you are obviously borderline retarded (maybe true ;-)) for lacking the obviously required psychic powers. As for the accommodation, they do not deliver basic facilities that are promised in the contract (to be specific a washing machine). I complained about this after a week and a half of waiting (with no explanation or apology) and was told i was rude. That's about it, rant over.
