Our system has dictated how, when and where teaching should be done, often sucking up teaching time with the filing and filling out of mounds of paperwork and reports. My son continues to do poorly in school and it's obvious that he isn't getting what he needs for his learning challenges. When I started teaching art after school in a city 30 minutes away. I told the school I would need to pick up my son 15 minutes once a week while my classes were in session. The principal called and said that this would take away from valuable learning (hogwash), she suggested that I arrive 30 minutes early to secure a place in the pick up line so that I could arrive at my desination on time. I have, each week and you know what, 3 times they have sent him home on the bus...and all they could do was say...Oh we're so sorry(baloney)....I don't have many good things to say about my local school system, ha! I think for a while they just thought I was some bum in paint splattered clothes.....until I wrote a nice letter to the school board and Uncle Jingles in Baton Rouge........schools are just not what they used to be...it's a shame
