calallen is the absolute worst school district . i recently just graduated this year and the school made it a living hell my 4 years of high school. i participated in band each of my 4 yrs of high school and my sophomore year when we played a football game in kerrville and i had a very bad asthma attack, my hands and face became numb, and i couldn't breathe on my own. emts had to sit me down on the ground and take my uniform jacket off, one rubbed my hands because my whole hand eventually locked into position while another emt was giving me oxygen because it was below 60. when i was being walked to my dads truck i remember my friend came running over asking if i was okay and had all my things and the band director mr valperts did as well he told me "hey man you okay, you did awesome tonight" later in the er my mom told me that she had been texting my doctor that was at the football game asking what she should do and she had told my mom that she'd come right down to us and my doctor heard mr.valpets tell other band directors that i should "walk it off" . the rest of my sophomore up until my SENIOR year he made comments towards me and my cousin who used to be in band as well such as calling us "frequent flyers" and asking me personally and INFRONT of the band during football game attendance if i would be needing a ambulance tonight. valperts personally ruined band for me which was why i tried to quit my senior year but then told me it "wasn't an option" so i had to stick it out until the end of dec. this year my senior year i had a teacher talk all year long about how teachers don't get pay raises and school refuses to give them any raises that's why a lot of the social studies teachers are leaving there's english teachers leaving science teachers as well and going to different school districts. he always talked about how bad the school system was and he was right. i got screwed over and was not allowed to walk the stage. this school administration failed me. they made it so complicated and took away something i will never get back. i was told start of march maybe that i owed a total of 39 hours only a certain amount from the fall and a certain about for the spring with 2 20$ fines. i start making them up once i had 7 period leave because i could stay for 2 hours every day and get more hours. i also attend 4 saturday schools out of the 13 they offered because i was told i only needed 39 hours so i knew i could make that up if i stayed every day and went to some saturday schools. i checked every once and awhile with the gcs teacher and the front office lady mrs harewell about how many hours i had left and each time i asked i was told that it was showing that i haven't made any hours up when i had been staying. i was told this up until mid april/end of april until they finally told me that i had made up 39 hours now i had 36 more to make up, as the deadline for senior hours was approaching in less then a week. day of the deadline i was told i had 5 hours left and so towards the end of the day i went to the office to ask if i should still stay to make up my hours and i was told i was not allowed to. my mom fought with the administration for days for me to walk the stage, the previous year for seniors who needed just a few hours they told them they could earn 2 hours the day of graduation rehearsal, or write a certain word count essay for hours and people who graduated last year have said that they did do this for them. i had the time to make up the 5 hours but i was told to "get over it". but at graduation practice the principal was preaching about how they dont have to let us walk the stage its a privilege but on the phone the superintendent told my mom its not in their hands to let me walk? they made me return to school the following week and it was a half day. i showed up and went to 1,3,5 period and my 5th period teacher told me she would call down for me about if i could leave yet because i had told her i had 5 hours to do and she was like you should be able to and when i went down no one was there so she ended up talking to someone else's and she was told for me to collect notes from my teachers that i was there and go see my counselor and from then my counselor told me i had 10 hours and that i could stay til 2 that day and the next day to make up my hours and i did so the next day i go and stay for the hours and when i go to the front to get my diploma my counselor went in to ask for my diploma and they took awhile to come out and after awhile i heard mrs barker tell mrs harwell that i had only earned 2 1/2 hours on Tuesday and i immediately texted my mom that they were about to pull a fast one again i texted her everything i heard and eventually i still got my diploma but they wasted my time and one word of advice from a alumni FUCK calallen. read more

Great place for education. Went to see a one act play that my granddaughter was involved in. It was a story of Alice in wonderland but it was rewritten by the Manhattan project. It was far from the original Alice. The teenagers did a great job with the script and knew all the lines but the story was way out in left field. read more
