My review is only on the event we recently attended:…read moreY101 is working with the Golf Club to present the occasional event in the space that used to be a restaurant... presuming they still do Sunday brunch? I don't know about that. I have not been there in such very long time, and only had brunch there once or twice (although I do have to admit that they did offer an excellent brunch at the time.) However, for this event, none of the low tables were set up - only a few bar stools. Since this event started at 8:00pm, we went to dinner elsewhere with friends beforehand and ended up here. Entrance was free for this event ("Three Girls With Guitars"), but there was not a huge turnout - some people, but not as many as I had expected, considering the event was advertised on Facebook. Normally, this place itself would garner a 3- or 4-star rating, but I wasn't a huge fan of this particular event. For one thing, although there were 3 or 4 stations to get drinks, all drinks were $5.50 each whether you chose beer or wine; but at least they did have a few different choices for either one. On the other hand, and a big minus IMHO, they were not offering coffee! How bizarre, for a place that normally serves as a restaurant, to not offer coffee! What is the designated driver supposed to drink?? Worse than that, while walking around the venue, we came to one bar section that had a pathway behind it (to the kitchen, I think?) - you could see the coffee maker sitting there and easily accessible, but they were not using it! The other thing I did not like was that although the singers' voices were obviously amplified, they were not very clear when speaking. Maybe that's just me and the noise level at the time, which is to be expected. But there was a lot of banter coming from the stage; it would have been nice to hear what they had to say. And you couldn't see them very well from all angles; you had to be standing right in front of the stage to see them. There were no tables whatsoever in front. We didn't end up staying very long (less than 1 hour), which is really too bad; it's not far from home which was one thing that appealed to me in the first place - and being free to get in was another. Hopefully I will have a chance to go back to The Mashes for other more enjoyable reasons...

Any golf course that lacks this I can't give it a 5 star rating, but Renfrew gets a strong, VERY STRONG, 4 star rating overall. I played on a Saturday afternoon, and ended up pairing up with another single golfer, then we were met by 2 more on the 1st tee for a proper foursome. That is never a problem. It was my golf game this particular round that was the problem, but that's not the purpose of my rating. The maple and oak trees had its leaves turning their traditional autumn colors and it only enhanced the beauty of this course. It is about 1 hour drive west of Kanata, but so worth the drive. (Secretly I'd have driven 3 or 4 hours for this one!) It was a busy day for golf, with the unseasonably warm weather in late September, and ended up being a 5 hour long round. I don't mind, I've had longer rounds. The putting green is located a stone's throw from the pro shop and clubhouse, and the pro shop is very well stocked with accessories and your necessary equipment. Normally, a course has its first hole as a somewhat easy par 4, but Renfrew is different. BUT, it was easier than most of the other 17 holes I can attest to that. Undulating fairways, and the most wicked green on the back 9 I have ever seen in my life!!! (I 2 putted and was quite ecstatic on that account). Course management most definitely needs to be top notch playing here. If I decide to play a course more than once during my stay here, it would be Renfrew. A tee box repair kit on each hole would warrant a true 5-star rating

You can rent skis here and they offer two lifts going up the "hills" (which are rather steep IMHO!), and a chalet with a canteen on the main floor. Upstairs has a fireplace and a bar where you can warm up, cool down, or just chill out. The upstairs leads out to a balcony offering a panoramic view of the grounds (including the stage for summer concernts). Then there is a staircase that leads down to the grounds. It's a really nice facility. Theres a fall festival coming up this year, when they will offer lifts up the hill to admire the fall colours up close. The staff has all been great, friendly and efficient. August 2017: I am editing my review to add that there's a restaurant called Canthooks in the resort. No idea why I didn't mention it in my previous review; maybe I hadn't gone there before. But I can say that it's pretty good. They offer a decent brunch on the weekends, for about $15.00 all you can eat, which I believe also offers free refills on coffee. I look forward to going back this weekend.

We stayed this past Thanksgiving weekend with family for the holiday in one of the two level condos. The accommodations are fairly dated, needing some updates and a real big scrub down. The weather could not have been more perfect, so we took advantage of riding up the hill on the ski lift for a pleasant hike in the woods on a beautiful sunny Sunday. The views were absolutely breathtaking and worth the trek and stay. We ended up using the pool with our young nephew who did have a good time but wished there were some toys to play with in the aquatic area. The outdoor hot tub was very gross however, wasn't hot and had a mysterious smell and colour to the water (avoid!). Since our family brought our own food to cook in the condo kitchen, the only food we tried at the resort were some fries with a side of mayo, which were quite tasty, reminding me of a old school chip truck variety - YUM! Tried the local beer called the Farmer's Daughter by the Ottawa based Whitewater Brewing Co and enjoyed every second of sunshine on their quaint patio. I would recommend visiting with an open mind ;)

It looks absolutely stunning as the sun sets. There are two courses and to my understanding the second course is free when you play the first. The staff was very kind. There's a small hut where you pay and they also offer ice cream bars and other snacks there as well. I'll definitely be going back to keep my winning streak up!
