Cais de Angra is a marina side restaurant that probably is the biggest place I've eaten in since we have been here. They have a large footprint but you're not jammed in there. At least that was the case for the off season. They have a great selection of meat and seafood as well as some light vegetarian selections. The wine list is plentiful, the service attentive and of course we enjoyed our meals. I'd love to come back in the summer and during the day so I could see out to the water while eating. Full bar here too so whatever you choose to drink, you'll find here I'm sure. read more

Great service and DELICIOUS grilled fish and veggies. We ordered the bruschetta with curd cheese, hot pepper jelly, and spinach which was a perfect starter on a hot day. The (local) fishes of the day we got were parrotfish (buttery, perfectly grilled and seasoned) and Atlantic chub mackerel (excellent but verrrry fishy so my husband had one bite and left the rest to me). Also recommend the house white - crisp and a touch of fruit, very Sauvignon Blanc (which it may have been). read more

My first dinner meal in Angra during my visit. Beautiful evening and it was nice eating by the marina. We were immediately greeted and were able to choose our table. Our server Francisco was very professional, friendly and attentive. We started our meal with a red wine and a caipirinha. We ordered the couvert of warm bread with soft cheese, parsley butter, olives and marmalade-all very tasty and went well with the wine. For our entrees we went with the fried codfish, breaded abrotea fish and Alcatra beef. All were well prepared and beautifully presented and delicious. We ended the meal with homemade chocolate mousse with chantilly whipped cream and tarta Dona Amelia with ice cream-this was a table favorite. Also had the cappuccino. I had 2 lunches here in May. The food was pretty good, but not memorable. They have an extensive menu of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. Lunch is a lot more affordable than dinner. So if you want the view without the price, I recommend stopping by in the afternoon. The service was slow, so don't go super hungry. One of the best features of the restaurant is the view: it overlooks the bay! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and there's sufficient seating for about 50 people. Lotta show ... but for us, a no-go. Sporting a modern Italian look, with flashy servers decked out in cork outfits and extensive menus a la plank, Cais de Angra is in a lovely setting on Angra's main harbor. Full bar, local beer on tap (lager and stout), outdoor seating. I'll post a complete review later, but for now I'll briefly summarize our group of 5's experience: Liked - the setting, ambiance (it's lively btw), the locally caught grilled parrotfish. Didn't like - the overlooked tuna, the overly salty breaded cod, the 50 minute wait for our entrees. Do check your bill, we were double-charged for two appetizer items. Not a bad place, but we've already had much better food and service elsewhere in this charming seaside town. read more

Restaurant is in a great spot at the marina with great views. Found the service to be slow but the waiter is pretty Attentive. Saw dishes come out for other tables and all looked pretty good. I tried the fish soup which was less impressive than its description. The food took over 40 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the fish soup showed up at the table. The remainder of the dishes was a burger and a fried salted cod. The food was decent but they really weren't worth the wait. read more

Great food with a view of the harbor. We had the tomato basil soup, the tuna sandwich, chicken sandwich and the queijo vaquinha burger. All were delicious. We especially loved the spicy jam on the burger. We also had the potato wedges with tandoori sauce and the bacon and cheese potatoes. Great service by our waitress Mariania! read more

I ran in to this place just by strolling around the marina. What struck me was the modern decor and the place was always filled with diners. I came here with very little expectation. I was not very hungry so it's perfect that they serve tapas portions. I ordered cracas (barnacles) which was perfect with the bread and butter. I also had the regional sausages which was perfect with my beer. Nothing really wowed me about this place besides it's located right off the marina. I would only recommend this place if you want something light and meet/socialize with friends in the area. read more

Went there for a quick lunch as it was recommended by our hotel. Had to get our own menu flag down waiter to take our order. Drinks took thirty min food almost an hour. People where walking out tired of waiting. Our food was not bad but cold. read more

We dined here last night and I always look forward to coming back to this place because they do make some great fish here however after I sit down I often am reminded of why I get frustrated at this restaurant. The wait is very very long once you are seated and often with little to no acknowledgement by the staff (this varies on who your server is). We were seated very promptly and the person who I thought was our server told us of all the items they were out of and then disappeared. We saw him walking around and then for almost 20 mins he was behind the bar / Kitchen area but not at our table taking our drink orders or dropping off bread to keep us from getting hangry! 45 minutes into sitting there with no acknowledgement from any staff we caught the attention of one who yelled over to the bar guy (our server?) to see who was taking care of our table. He then went to his tables outside and walked past us once more and decided it might be best to take our order (we were ready to leave but had sat for this long and suspected most everything else would be closing) so we ordered. We went from wanting apps, soup, food and drinks to just ordering entrees and one soup so now the restaurant is losing out on the total ticket which would have been larger. The food itself was ok ...fish soup and one chuck of fish and mainly veggies and bread. The fish we ordered was cooked PERFECTLY as were the veggies, the fries were thick cut but very dry as if they'd been overheated multiple times. We had to flag our now new waiter down for another drink order. The frustrating part is that this restaurant is at an ideal location with what tourists are looking for however the owner needs to invest in more help and make it so his team can do a great job which they are capable of, they just seem overworked and overwhelmed. I did not see anyone who looked like a manager on site to ease the way things are run. I'd make some simple suggestions - stagger your tables or let them know how long the wait might be. Take drink orders and drop some bread down along with the wifi code to keep people occupied. Communicate vs ignore and don't just walk by tables that look like they are frustrated ...it makes things worse. If we had been acknowledged and told about the wait and been given drinks we wouldn't have minded the 2 hours it took to complete our meal due to the long waiting period. read more

I was on Terceira for a week before a wedding that many had traveled from abroad to attend. We had a reservation and were seated promptly but that was the last fast thing that happened. We waited 45 minutes for drinks service and about an hour and a half after that for food, which was just okay. The tuna was incredibly overcooked and the limpets were chewy and tough. The ambience is great. The location is fantastic, but if you want to eat in a relatively decent amount of time, this might not be your spot. We also had friends there with small children whom were seated before us and waited, and waited and waited for their meals, without anything being offered for the children. read more

The place is nice but the food and the service didn't leave much to be desired. A bunch of young guys standing around and whispering under there breath while looking at us instead of asking if we would like something to eat or drink. I ordered steak with mushroom risotto and the steak was not rare it was raw. I am all for my steak medium or medium well, but rare is another story. This is my favorite restaurant. I've been there three times on three trips to the island. The location on the waterfront gives great views whether you eat inside or out. Service is good and allows you to relax with friends without trying to push you out the door and turnover tables. Try the green wine - it was surprisingly good. read more
