I didn't really mean to sell my house. What happened was, I was looking for a home in Houston and working with a realtor that pretty much showed us houses and that's pretty much it. I thought, oh my god, if I have to deal with this every time I need to rent out the Austin space, I'll definitely lose it. Cain Realty had been calling for a while since I asked them for a home value a year or two ago on my condo. So when Elizabeth called randomly, it was great timing. She came out, took a look at the house, and put a sheet in front of me with a number for estimated proceeds from selling. Honestly, the number wasn't that attractive. It was $110k less than the home appraised for just over a year ago. We signed anyway for two reasons. One, Elizabeth seemed like an actual human. She chatted and laughed with us while also giving us real information about the home selling process. I liked her as a person, but I also liked her ability to explain things to me that I didn't understand in the realty world. And two, she told me honestly that the housing market was different and that prices were falling, and that the number she was showing me was conservative but realistic. It could go for more. Let's just see what happens. It took us three weeks to get the house ready with the Cain team (mostly Carissa) checking in about weekly. Faster than the four weeks we'd planned. So when we pulled the whole thing up by a week, they were great. And then the ice storm happened. So they rescheduled photographers and helped me time the entire thing out so that the whole day was perfectly orchestrated for maximum impact. If Carissa decided to give up her job entirely, she has a massive future in events planning. I've never seen anyone so organized. The house went live without photos to hit our Friday mark. I wanted it live before the weekend, photos or not. By Saturday morning, we had a showing booked. Then the photos (which were on rush thanks to Cain) went live. Then the showing happened. All in one day. Then a quick Sunday showing. And a verbal offer on Monday. Contract signed Wednesday or so. The number was way higher than the one Elizabeth had showed us on day one. And it was the easiest decision I've ever made. The house went under contract in about four days. Through closing, we'd talk to Carissa a few times a week. Closing day took all of maybe 20 minutes and funds were available later that evening. It was the best experience I've ever had with a realty team in my life. In fact, I've even bounced some things off of the Cain team since I have no clue what I'm doing on the buying end either and they are always completely helpful and non-judgemental. KodiKay even picked up the phone to call and check in and offer help in finding a replacement realtor on the buying end if I need it in a market they don't even serve. That's an incredible dedication to service. This whole experience was as pleasant as possible. It was stressful, don't get me wrong, because we're letting go of one house and buying another. But I'd readily recommend (and have a few times) Cain Realty Group to anyone who has never bought and needs a stellar experience, or to anyone who has ever dealt with a shitty realtor and has a bad taste in their mouth about the whole process.
