Another return trip to Cafe Valvet and the beautiful town of Sigtuna. Nice selection of things from the salad bar. Potato Salad, red cabbage, coleslaw, hummus, carrots etc. And i love the Swedish bread and delicious butter. We had beef bourguignon which came with mashed potatoes. Lots of beef with mushrooms and pearl onions smothered in gravy. We also ordered a fried fish in a creamy lemon sauce with baby potatoes and nicely done selection of veggies, not overcooked. A dessert comes with your meal. This visit, it was an apple crisp with a nice white sauce that you add. I WAS STUFFED AND HAPPY. Order at the counter. Very friendly help. We were in Sigtuna for the day and looking for a nice lunch, and our guide directed us to this place as it has a good local vibe with several good options. They have salads, sandwiches and some hot special items. We shared a custom "make your own" pick your ingredients salad and the Swedish meatballs lunch special (when in Sweden, got to try them). Both were freshly prepared and tasted good. Would not hesitate returning if in the area. read more

An old bank branch - hence The Vault Its a little dark, but why not...we had a really pleasant, calming evening here the night before our wedding last year...it was fun, the food was simple but good, the service too, professional but easy...nice, no stress Fully recommend - Good value. its on the main drag and I guess in summer full of tourists; we were there during the Christmas market; all the shops were done up. Went here for a lunch on a Holland America excursion. Eating here was the cherry on top of a beautiful town of Sigtuna. The food here for a group of 20 plus people was out of this world. Not because it was fancy. It was great because it tasted like the vegetables were picked 5 minutes before you ate them from your Grandmothers back yard. The salad didn't have salad dressing and honestly my first thought was, "hey, did you forget something?" However, after taking a few bites I realized I didn't need any salad dressing. It tasted so good the salad dressing would have coveed and destroyed the real taste. We had Swedish Meatballs for lunch. Sorry IKEA but lunches in your cafeteria will always be 2nd best after this.... These were the best meatballs I've ever eaten. If you are ever in Sigtuna, Sweden I highly recommend having a real Swedish lunch here. read more

LUNCH! We stopped in this nice welcoming cafe twice. First for some drinks and dessert, the second for a delicious yet economical lunch. The pastry selection is full of temptations, and drink selection won't disappoint either. But lunch is where its at. Cafe Valvet's ridiculous wallet saving 120SEK($13.50) lunch specials are a Swedish steal. Three appetizing choices of chicken cordon blue, roasted salmon, and lasagna...we chose the later two, both were were delectable. The lunch specials also included breads, a nice salad bar and dessert, which that day was a simple but satisfying peach crumble. Unlimited helpings of it all! With the name and the website, I was really expecting something in the line of a chic French Bistro with price-tags to match. Since we were visiting Sweden, we were not going to try this spot until our local host recommended it as a place where one could get quality meals for a reasonable price in an unpretentious setting. As we arrived for the several dinners we had here well after the last tour-ferry went back to Stockholm for the evening, we're pretty certain that the other tables were full of Sigtuna locals, which speaks well for the place. The first night I had the Hemjorda Köttbullar, since Swedish meatballs are one of the few tiny snippets of cultural heritage my family kept when they assimilated to American ways. Cafe Valvet's Köttbullar are better than my grandmother's, and I can see why lingonberries are the traditional companion of these little balls of meaty heaven. Raz had the Fisk-och Skaldjursgryta, which was a very good bouillabaisse made with care and remarkably fresh ingredients. What he had wanted to have was Valvets Klassika Laxpudding, but the kitchen was out and the dish apparently takes a day to prepare, so we made plans to come back on the assurance he could try some. True to their word, Valvet had Laxpudding for Raz our second night. While the fishy dish was not to my taste, he was still raving about it 3 days later as we flew to Iceland, so I would recommend it to people who like fish. I had the Wallenbergare Original, which is kind of like a super juicy and fat hamburger patty with no bun. Had I scanned the menu more carefully, I'd have skipped it since it was indeed a French dish. The lingonberries made it much more unique and local, though, and on the whole, one can't go wrong with well-prepared ground beef. The ambiance of the place was much more casual than I had initially expected, which I found a pleasant surprise, and the prices were quite reasonable compared with the other restaurants in Stockholm and the surrounding county. I would definitely recommend a dinner here to anyone spending some time in Sigtuna. read more
