I usually go next door to La Pica de Tia Ruth, but after passing this place enough times I noticed the food always looked amazing. They have a few different menu items than some of the other restaurants. The portions are HUGE and the prices incredibly cheap. I tried a "Shapshui de pollo" (a spin on chicken chop suey) which was absolutely delicious. Lots of chicken, lots of veggies, I chose a side of fries. You also get bread, a soup and a salad with each meal. I had to take half the dish home because it was so much food (and for 3,300 pesos!) My husband tried the Mongolian Beef and was likewise impressed. Will be choosing this one over Tia Ruth going forward!

Unfortunately, last year they were literally forced out of their restaurant after the municipality decided to build the line 6 metro. They gave them the date they had to leave, and that date came and went while those from San Remo fought to stay. Unfortunately, the municipality won and as the faithful San Remos clients surrounded the restaurant, security started taking tables, chairs and kitchen supplies to the street. This story has a happy ending. A few months later they reopened in this new spot and their clients followed. San Remo has only 5 dishes but boy do they make them well! They are known for having the best arrollado in Santiago (a traditional chilean dish of roasted pig wrapped in pig skin and slowly cooked). Many of my Chilean friends have deemed the San Remo arrollado as a "superior" dish. It is served with a choice of french fries, mashed potatoes or boiled potatoes. They serve national beers and some international such as Estrella from Spain. Keep in mind it is closed at 4pm and reopens from 8pm-12am and not open on the weekends.

The Cazuela de Ave (Chicken Soup) was warm and comforting. The chicken was a little bit dry, but the soup came in a big portion with lots of toasty bread and it was worth the 2500CLP ($3.70). The location is convenient as it is right in Plaza Italia and right next to the Baquedano metro station! Not bad if you're in the area and you need a quick and comforting bite!
