History
Established in 2007.
Cafe Maya began years ago as the Zipolite lifeguard base, occasional cafe/bar, camping area and surf rentals, and was opened in 2007 as a full-service Cafe offering specialties such as Juice bar, Bakery, Sushi and Asian food, Ceviches and other Seafood, etc. Since then, the Cafe Maya family has grown (owners and their children), accommodations have been added (2 rooms at present- to be continued...) along with Wifi internet and other amenities (small kitchen for monthly rentors, telephone, security,etc.). We now open year-round 7 days a week and our mission is to offer a peaceful, laid back beach environment and top quality service within a moderate price range, helping our visitors feel welcome and enjoy the best of what Zipolite has to offer!
Meet the Business Owner: Kate K.
Kate, a country girl from Wisconsin arrived to the area in 1999 after living three years in Alaska where she studied education and worked as a sea kayak and raft guide. The year after her arrival she opened a very successful business with similar cuisine in Mazunte where she resided for over 7 years. At present, she spends her time managing Cafe Maya on Zipolite Beach, preparing the Bakery and Sushi/Asian food on her menu, raising and educating her children and enjoying nature and life in general.
