Beano Cafe

Beano Cafe

(1 review)

I am a regular customer at Beano's cafe in Herne Bay. This review will be based on my experiences…read moreof their breakfasts as I have not yet sampled their main meals. I normally visit Beano's cafe after a night out with friends and order one of the many fried breakfasts that are offered on their menu. If you don't fancy a full breakfast you can of course go for a sandwich, baguette or you can make your own breakfast using items off the menu. I normally go for a Beano breakfast which I believe represents the best value for money. From memory it is under £5 and filled me up so much that I skipped lunch. Included within the breakfast is two slices of toast and a choice of tea or coffee. After placing your order you can relax at one of the tables with one of the newspapers on offer however your never normally waiting longer than 10 minutes for your breakfast to get delivered to your table. The breakfast that is offered by Beano's cafe is the best quality breakfast you can buy in Herne Bay. The food is always hot and you can tell that the produce they use is fresh. The black pudding and bubble they use is delicious and their sausages are huge. After you have eaten your breakfast you can sit there with a coffee for as long as you want as the staff normally have a chat or joke with you as they continue working. I'm giving Beanos five stars as the food they serve is the best fried food you can buy in Herne Bay, the staff are friendly and the cafe is also incredibly clean and is always full of people enjoying their food.

Bay Side Cafe

The Bay Side Cafe is located in a prominent position on Mortimer Street which is the main shopping…read morearea in Herne Bay. They provide everything from cans of drinks to daily specials. Appearance: The Bay Side Cafe looks like any other cafe from the outside. They utilise the space on their windows to advertise daily specials and new items as well as a full menu. Inside the cafe there is enough space for around 30 customers. The tables and chairs are fixed and although comfortable they are spaced very closely together and this may hinder anyone with mobility problems. The decoration is neutral and gives the cafe a very light and airy feel, aided by the large windows at the front. Atmosphere: Recently this cafe changed hands and lost a large percentage of its regular customers who instead decided to frequent Beanos Cafe which is further up the road. The management decided to let their longest serving waitress go and as she walked out of the door the majority of the customers followed her. The new owners rarely interact with their customers but instead spend most of their time talking in the kitchen. It just doesn't have the same type of atmosphere as it had with the previous owners at the helm. Food: The food is where this place really shines. They offer a variety of food ranging from traditional cooked breakfasts to homemade chilli con carne and it all tastes brilliant. I often visit on a Saturday and it does take a while for your food to come out but most of the set breakfasts includes tea or coffee to drink whilst you wait. The food is always piping hot and best of all it tastes fresh. It is much more cafe than 'greasy spoon'. The prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. Pay special attention to the daily special as chilli con carne with a rice and salad is only going to set you back a fiver. The Rambling Conclusion: For a well priced fresh meal in nice surroundings come to the Bay Side cafe on the weekend. But don't entertain it during the week as there's more life in a sleepy hedgehog. Given it's listing, you'd be forgiven for thinking Windy Corner is solely a corner store. Sure, you…read morecan pick up your gourmet and some organic groceries here, but most locals come to use it's wonderful café. Set 2 minutes back from Whitstable beach, Windy Corner is the perfect place or Sunday Brunch (or weekday lunch or coffees). Furnished with antique furniture, the whole cafè feels like your granny's kitchen. The food itself is mostly sourced from local producers and they have an artisan baker who uses the cafe after hours and supplies the bread. The menu is constantly changing depending on what the staff have felt like cooking, but if it can be made from what they stock, they can make it for you. Having been a while since I've been here the pricing is not as great as it used to be. £4 used to get you a large portion of poached eggs on toast with 2 thick slices of artisan bread and 3 perfectly poached eggs. Today I got 1 slice and 2 eggs for the same price. The other portions of things like lasagne and such seemed unchanged. Despite my minor gripe this is still a fantastic little place to go for a lunch or a coffee in whitstable.

I only had coffee, which was fine but people seemed to be happy as they dug into their food. The coffee quality and price was good, and the staff and a customer I spoke to, vey friendly. I like the place. Indoor/outdoor tables, laid back, close enough to the beach... So, yeah, give it a shot.
