I have gone to this place for years as a performer and as far as I am concerned, this is the place…read morethat is a reflection of how unique Middletown is. This place is the most unique dance studio and I believe it should be considered an tourist attraction when visiting CT and a must-visit when staying in Middletown. Located in downtown, Middletown, CT, Vinnie's is home to a bunch of different alternative classes, including (but not limited to) Yoga, Belly dancing, swing, B-Boying, and the list does not stop there. This is the dance school that seems to caters to adults first, and then the children. The ages of folks taking these classes varies from 17 to 67 and probably beyond! The classes are also affordable. As a bboy, I stepped into a swing-dancing club night there and it was amazing - they treated me like one of their locals and when the beat was right, I was able to do my thing and they loved it. It was a great show of reciprocated respect and admiration for how we expressed ourselves. Anyway, I would take a look at Vinnie's, see their schedule and take a class or two! Or, go to one of their public events and enjoy yourself!

I love the studio; it is bright and spacious. Not underground or in a basement somewhere like some studios are. There is a regular group that comes to these classes and even though they all know each other, they are warm and inclusive of new people. The only thing holding me back from giving RNS Barre class five stars is that weights aren't used and I don't feel I get much of an upper arm workout. The energy is fabulous and it is definitely a great workout. Update: weights were used in class today. First time I've seen this. I'm waiting to change my rating until I see

Not only did our expertly choreographed routine set the tone for the rest of the evening and shock every one of our guests, but we both experienced a moment where the world melted away and all we saw was each other. Watching the videos of the dance we can hear cheering and clapping, but neither of us have any memory of that occurring while we were dancing. Crystal took two non-dancers and made us look fabulous - more so than we could have ever dreamed! With her expertise and Josh's style coaching we felt so comfortable performing the routine. We could not recommend Crystal and Josh any more!! We are confident that we would not have received a fraction of the individualized attention and choreography had we gone to a run of the mill ballroom dance studio. We loved Crystal so much that we not only invited her to our wedding but plan to continue our lessons with frequent date nights!

If you're from around the area, you might have noticed a familiar barista at a few independent…read morecoffee shops. His name is Taki Tanaka, and he's a master at crafting any coffee you might desire. He can be currently found at the very unique space combining dance and drinking coffee, Garage Dance Studio & Coffee Lounge. While the dance studio and the coffee lounge share the same space, they don't share the same hours of operation. I was here a few months ago, to find the coffee portion in the dark and the dance floor in full bloom! I came again yesterday afternoon, to find the opposite. This time the coffee lounge was open, and no one was on the dance floor. The inside is set to look like you're in somewhere in Madrid amongst the colorful buildings, where the tables are all adorned with red tablecloths. Of course, the barista working was Taki Tanaka. We chatted briefly and he made me the most delightful Honey Fig Latte. It was creamy, foamy, with a beautiful rose art design he hand poured himself. This was mildly sweet, rich in coffee, utterly satisfying with each sip. I just wish there was dance to see.

I decided to order a Chai Latte because I had never tried it before. I don't drink coffee, but the Chai Latte was good. For me, it needed to be a little sweeter, but all in all, it was a Chai Latte. There is also a dance studio located inside the coffee shop. They offer dance lessons, and the inside, from the dance clothes to the others hanging from the window, gives off a Latin vibe.

The owner, Gerald Lovelace, is, for real, a renaissance man who runs the studio, teaches, and is a tech wiz with all sorts of video and light production. (His photo studio, Lovelace Studios, is a testament to many of his skills outside of dance, check that out, too.) Classes are affordable, insanely fun, incredibly accessible and welcoming (I had danced a lot growing up but never in the style I take at The Lab), and the folks at The Lab are just the nicest, ever. Beginner classes are indeed beginner-friendly, but they're *not* boring!! They also film at the end of every class, which helps me learn where I can improve AND document an incredibly fantastic experience. Filming is optional but I recommend it! I'm just repeating myself but I can not recommend this studio enough. Check out their YouTube page or Instagram if you want to get a good sense of the choreographers/teachers and the styles you'll find here. I could spend a year going on and on about the experience dancing at the Lab. It's an oasis in a desert (where are the other dance studios!? But now I don't even need 'em lol, nothing would beat this spot). Logistical Bits: If you're coming to visit, parking is in the back of the building (I don't do what my phone says and I just turn in from E Main St to High Street, before you hit the Dunkin' Donuts), and the door is a little bit nondescript (imho) so be confident as you walk in, you're in the right place. ;) TLDR The *best* spot, the best people, truly a space buzzing with creative energy - at least every single second I've spent there. Can't wait to keep going!!
