Ahh the first Caffe Latino I ever visited, and I remember back when it was good. It's not that it's terrible now, it's just that it's lost some of the old charm it had back when it opened.
Caffe Latino does the standard coffees, the lattes, espressos, americanos, hasn't started on the iced coffees yet but I sense this may come soon, there are fresh juices, bottled juices, smoothies, a selection of teas, soups, paninis, sandwiches, cakes, tray bakes, biscotti, the best fudge cake ever! It's saving grace lately.
I don't mean to beat down on Caffe Latino, but there used to be a charm about the joint, with it's coffee coloured interiors, creaky floors, tables for two, intimate alcoves where you could just get lost in quiet study and ignore the world, the staff were regular faces who knew your order and didn't make a pig's ear of it. After a while, staff began to regularly rotate, and it became increasingly harder to get a decent cup of coffee in here. If you ordered it with syrup it was far too sweet or didn't have enough. The order to bar delivery was ill timed and the coffee would go bad, and then you'd have the hassle of asking them to remake it while the queue would be backing up out the door. Oi Vey.
Recent visits showed slight improvements, but I did notice that the prices have shot up dramatically, and this isn't enough to compensate for the quality of the end product. It's a shame when a coffee house's best asset is the fodder that is served in the fridges and not from the bar. read more
