While walking around, I took a peek inside the courtyard. It was charming! There were a few empty tables, so we sat in the shade. We had a great lunch. I ordered the Ravioli di ricotta e spinaci con burro e salvia (ravioli filled with ricotta cheese, spinach, butter and sage), along with a glass of house white wine. It's one of my favorite dishes from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. The ravioli was so tender, perfectly cooked. My husband had the Carpaccio di bresaola con rucola e grana (beef carpaccio with arugula and parmesan). It was a beautiful display of food. He enjoyed it along with his beer. This was a perfect spot for lunch in a lovely setting.

Our friends were allready sitting here, just like they had been for the last 45(!!) minutes, without being served. No stress, they brought their homework so they killed time studying in the peace and quiet of this place. When we came in a group of 8 left, our friends told us they had also been sitting there for half an hour. We took their table, because they finally helped us. We ordered a drink, just a drink, but after another 20 minutes we went away. We cancelled our order, offcourse, because we have manners, and the waitress just shrugged and said "ok". Well, alright. I guess they don't care.

Near our hotel was Fresco, a fun tapas bar. At night it is HOPPING!! Crowded with locals enjoying their wine, beer and tapas. We came here both nights. The bartender and a couple of wait staff welcomed us the second visit. We ended up talking to several locals while sitting outside. So much fun! Prices are very reasonable for the tapas. If you go for a drink, you'll get a complimentary small plate of food.

Menu offered a variety of intriguing options including seasonal specials and dishes that made it clear we were in Emilia Romagna. Since there were three of us we were able to sample a variety of dishes and all were very good to exceptional. To start I had the radicchio salad with crispy bacon, companions had the soft cheese budino with crispy parma ham in wine cream, and the parma ham and parmesan cheese salad. Both the salads were so huge (and wonderfully fresh tasting) they could have been a "light" lunch all on their own! The budino was beautiful and tasty as well. It was hard not to keep munching on the warm piadina bread served to the table as well, but we had to save room for our mains. I absolutely adore venison and can't resist ordering it when I see it on a menu. Here they had it in a stew with polenta. Delicious, much like the way I prepare it at home slow-cooked in wine with fresh herbs like rosemary. One companion, after a week of heavy pasta and rice dishes felt drawn to the grilled chicken. As simple as that sounds, it was terrific. I'd love a place back home that made such a flavorful grilled chicken dish. Third main course was the winner of the day, though - the risotto with sausage and radicchio. Perfectly cooked risotto (according to my native Italian dining companion) and rich with autumn flavors. Needless to say, no room was left for dessert. I would definitely come back here and recommend this restaurant as a great place to sample some of the cuisine of this region of Italy. It's not an intimate or romantic choice, but good for a group, especially if you want to sample a variety of dishes.
