My friend and I got off the ship and opted to avoid where the rest of the ship was going (ship had arranged a bus to take people into town for $16 each...)...
i didn't want to spend any more money (this was our last port of the cruise and I still had my train trip to florence).
we took a water taxi for $1 each way to get to where we were going...
first we met a group of friends for lunch at a spot that they had made arrangements with...why do we need arrangements? well just about everyone is closed mid day for their siesta...our boat docked at 2:00 which meant that nothing would be open until 4:00...
after lunch we just walked around this sleepy port town. shops and cafe's were starting to open...
we wrapped up our excursion at Caffe' del Mare....
service was fabulous! they were happy to speak English and explain things to us...then explained the snack bar!
so apparently all cafe's have a Happy hour with a spread of complimentary snacks!! well...not in the touristy areas, but in normal local areas...see the spread in my pics..
we each ordered a customary local drink (everyone in the cafe had a spritzer in front of them...and they were all local)...the spritzer is made of Aperol, prossecco and a splash of soda water...yum! if i made it myself i would use a little less aperol ...just to reduce sweetness...(i had a few other spritzer's earlier this week)
we were sitting in a cafe in italy eating snacks and sipping on a refreshing beverage in a tiny italian town...couldn't ask for a better afternoon! read more
