Gestern waren zwei Freunde und ich im Enchilada. Großer Glaskasten, bunte Lichter und ein volles Haus bedeuten nicht zwangsläufig eine positive Erfahrung. Das Ambiente ist ansprechend und beinhaltet einige mexikanische Akzente, ob es Bilder von "Lotería" Karten sind, Abbildungen des Azteken Sonnengottes "Huitzilopochtil" oder eine gekonnte moderne Interpretation von "La Catrina". Allerdings sind dies alles Dinge die mit Mexico und der mexikanischen Kultur verbunden werden können aber nicht zwangsläufig etwas mit der mexikanischen Küche zu tun haben. Klar, für Kempten ist das eine Attraktion da es anders und neu ist, für jemanden der seit fast fünf Jahren in San Diego wohnt und dessen Freundin und Familie aus Mexico stammt ist das eher eine Touristenfalle.
Aber nun zum Essen und den Getränken. Ich habe mich für eine Hibiskus "Jamaica" Margarita entschieden... keine gute Wahl. Die Gläser sind zwar den typischen mexikanischen Gläsern angedacht allerdings sind es nur billige gepresste Kopien und wo war die typische blaue Farbe am Rand? Die Margarita an sich war eher ernüchternd. Meiner Meinung: Margarita Mix und nicht frisch zubereitet. Beim Essen habe ich mich für die vegetarischen Enchiladas entschieden. Dieses Gericht hat dem Restaurant den Namen gegeben und ich war der Meinung hier kann man nicht viel falsch machen. Leider war auch das eine Fehlinterpretation. Auf meine Frage ob die Weizentortillas mit Maiztortillas ausgetauscht werden können, hat man mir einen irritierten Blick zugeworfen und mir mitgeteilt das die Küche am Samstag Sonderwünsche nicht erfüllen kann. Ich nehme stark an, dass keine Mexikaner in der Küche arbeiten... wer serviert den bitte Enchiladas mit Weizentortillas... das ist weit weg vom Original. Bitte googlet Bilder von echten Enchiladas damit ihr wisst wie diese aussehen. Geschmacklich war das Essen "okay" aber definitiv nicht nah dran an echten Enchiladas oder echtem mexikanischem Essen. An dieser Stelle muss ich noch erwähnen das man mir 1€ für extra Jalapeños berechnet hat... Alles in Allem keine gute Erfahrung. Das Enchiladas ist meiner Meinung ein buntes, etwas besseres TexMex Restaurant ABER serviert definitiv keine echte mexikanische Küche...
Last night two friends and I went to the Enchilada. Big glass box, colorful lights and a packed place don't necessarily mean a good experience. The ambiance is attracting and uses certain Mexican accents like pictures of Lotería card, images of the Aztec god Huitzilopochtil or a well done and modern interpretation of La Catrina. All of that are things that can be associated with Mexico or the Mexican culture but are not really related to the Mexican cuisine. Of course, for Kempten it's something different and new but for someone living in San Diego for almost five years and being in a relationship with a Mexican woman, with a Mexican family it appears more like a tourist trap. But now let's talk about food and drinks. I decided to get a hibiscus "jamaica" margarita. Not a good choice. The glasses are similar to the traditional style but just cheap, pressed copies... and where was the blue coloring at the edge? In my opinion: margarita mix but not freshly prepared. Food wise I decided to order the vegetarian enchiladas. This dish gave this restaurant it's name... can't bee a bad choice, can it? Unfortunately it can. I asked if I could swap the flour tortillas with corn tortillas, the waiters response was a dirty look and his explanation was that on Saturdays the kitchen can't take special orders. I bet there are no Mexicans working in the kitchen, who serves enchiladas with Flo our tortillas in the first place? That's far away from the original. Please google some images of real enchiladas so you guys know how they look like. Taste wise the food was "okay" but definitely not even close to real Mexican food. Not mentioning that they charged me 1€ for a few slices of jalapeño... After all not a good experience. The Enchilada is in my opinion a colorful version of a slightly better TexMex place BUT NOT an authentic Mexican restaurant serving authentic Mexican food.
