I would recommend one of the regional pastries such as fruta de Algarve, which are similar to soft marzipan with a thick egg yolk and sugar mixture in the middle. It's not like marzipan in the States and a lot softer and has a better texture and flavor. The other would be the Dom Rodrigo, which comes in a little colorful foil packet. It's an egg yolk and sugar mixture that is in thin strings layered on top of each other and swimming in a simple syrup. It might be too sweet for some.

Be here by 11:30 if you want any - if they run out of dough they'll not offer any churros. Usually packed between 10am and 1pm. They are open the same hours Sunday when Antonio's Dad works the tables and shouts out the orders in a slightly "loud" voice. He's unique and a Rota icon. I usually come here to have a cafe manchado while reading the Diario de Cadiz.

We stopped by here on our walk down to the beach after we finally found parking. It's a little off the beaten path, but worth the stop. They have outdoor seating that's basically on the very small sidewalk, just enough for tables of 2 or 3. The staff was extremely nice and spoke decent English. The food was great. They have everything from vegan/vegetarian to spanish style breakfasts. I ordered the Ingles Plato (Enlgish breakfast plate) that had eggs, beans, sausage, tomatoes, bacon/ham, and toast. It was delicious and a nice change from the croissants and sandwiches I normally got in Spain. The only bad thing I can say about this place is the tiny sidewalk the outdoor seating is on. Cars drive by really close to you which gets kind of annoying, but luckily it's a small town so there aren't many cars in the first place.
