This is the best place for lunch or dinner after a day of touring the Catedral de Burgos. The…read morerestaurant is similar to a glass garage located in the plaza near the castle. It's light, earthy and a great place to rest, relax and get a delicious meal. The thing with Spanish meals is that it's more of a social event rather than a quick meal. So, when here, it's important to try something very different than the foods you will get in the states. Try black spaghetti or other fish dishes. If you order a fish, just be prepared to get the whole fish and have to debone it yourself - it also includes the eyes--- I was sure shocked to see that. The other thing about Spanish meals is that they love to drink. So, do what the Romans' do and order a bottle of wine or a large glass of beer. Then, of course, don't forget the dessert. This restaurant has daily desserts, so definitely check out the daily specials. The waiters and waitresses also speak English and may even attempt to teach you a little Spanish to help you through your travels for the rest of your stay. They are very knowledgeable on the dishes and specials and do their best to explain the menu items. Make sure to try their bread, it is warm and delicious. But, you can't beat the view. You have a great view of the castle, the plaza and the shops. If you love people watching, you will love this place.

But what they do have is efficient service and reasonably quick seating. The ambiance depends on which part of the restaurant you are seated in -- upstairs, busy and bustling; downstairs, a more classic "taberna" style; in the extra room next door, old school lunchroom style (not the best, in case that wasn't clear). The food was good, not great, but a solid 3 stars: simple, hearty, tasty, and not exorbitantly priced. The last star goes for the service -- we were lucky enough to have a waiter with a smile and a good sense of humor, who was willing to swap our desserts for coffees even on the fixed menu.

The staff does not speak English but the manager (owner ?) does. They have indoor seating or a nice outdoor patio. They have a lot of options on their menu. Try their zamburina or octopus. They also serve a whole lamb leg, bring it out to your table and slice it up for you. Paella takes 20 minutes, we opted for the seafood option. It was ok, not spectacular. Tried the blood sausages, they were good. Three pieces in the appetizer dish with eggs. Loved their fat fries. Tried their cheese veal schnitzel (cachopo), it was good. It's battered so it'll be heavy, better to be shared so you can taste other items. There's a gambling machine and cigarette vending machine. Decor is nice. Complimentary house bread to start. Great dessert options, including tiramisu, although we did not try them because we already had so many other desserts throughout the day. Great spot if you're in Burgos!
