Platillo Volador - flying saucer sandwich filled with Longaniza and Cheddar Cheese
Mark K.

They are located at the bottom of Paseo de Montejo and are what we in the US would consider a diner. It's got that '50s vibe with neon and an old teal Impala on their sign. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and it was comfortably spaced out. They had barriers set to enter and exit in different places, did temperature checks and offered hand sanitizer. All of their staff wore masks as well. We had been by several times during our recent visits and they always seem to be busy. Brunch is very popular with local street performers gathering on the sidewalk. We stopped by one night for a light bite and both opted for Platillo Volador - or flying saucers. These are pressed white bread sandwiches filled with any variety of stuffings. My husband had Double Cheese and I went with Longaniza and Cheddar. They were both really nice and crispy on the edges while still light. There was a good amount of filling and mine with the Longaniza was packed with flavor. Each came with potato chips and a side of pickled Jalapeños and Carrots. They were so good that we considered a couple more. My husband also went for a Champolas, a thick chocolate milkshake ( they also offer a malted version!) It was thick and full of chocolate! The menu has a great mix of sandwiches, burgers, soups and breakfast items available all day. We'll absolutely be back.

This place is delicious and the service is awesome. This is how waiters should treat customers. Great attention and kind service. The breakfast was very delicious, the hamburger and fries are yummy and the kids loved the food. Great atmosphere and worth the wait.

Wonderful breakfast on the Paseo

We had a nice "Americanized" breakfast here one Sunday morning on the Paseo as bikes rode by. We started out with a large glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. My wife and I ordered eggs over easy, bacon, and toast. We also received hash browns and black beans with our dish. The food arrived quickly, made to order, and hot. They give you a lot of bacon with the dish. We really enjoyed ourselves watching the people and bikes go by.

Great view!!

Food was great it being in a very touristy area! It sits at the entrance of the game paseo montejo- overlooking the Conquistador statues n the beginning of beautiful mansions that line up the strip!! We ordered the Huevos Motulenos that were spot on in flavor and texture- The service is great and very attentive- Great place for a quick bite n rest from the walking!

Our late night meal! It's like a Mexican diner. Our food was delicious! We got the impala hamburger, which was a bacon burger. And a super club. Which was sky high! Highly recommended that. The horchata is delicious. If you up late and need food. Come here!

We came here twice during our stay in Merida. Mostly because it was in the heart of the action during the evenings we were there. One night I had a banana split and one morning I had fried bananas and a coffee. We liked it better in the evening, for some reason there were lots of flies and bees hovering the tables in the day. Some of the bees were landing right on people's pancakes while they were eating. For that reason I knocked one star off. The atmosphere and people watching were the best part. The menu has an extensive sandwich list. Our waiter knew English which was helpful to us. Fun times.

Lime Soup (in the US it's called Tortilla Soup) and fried plantains.

Ate here last minute, but glad I did the Lime Soup was the best Tortilla Soup I've ever had. Loved the fried plantains too. Nice water and great corner for ambiance sitting outside

Super sandwich. This is only half of it.

Food was really good, but the service was questionable. The table next to us sat after us and got their food before us.
