No drinks offered to start. I ordered the restauratør tatar and asked if I could have some extra carrot and parsley fries instead of the potatoes, this obviously annoyed her and now I realise that she was trying to explain that those were just a small garnish and not something to fill up on, but she acted like I was supposed to know that and finally agreed to go ask the kitchen if they could manage this. During 3 trips back and forth she did manage to check if it was because I was allergic to potatoes, I'll give her that. Boyfriend and I asked for ice water and was informed they had Ramlösa, which is known for being a sparkling water and we wanted still. "Yes, we have Ramlösa." So we got the Ramlösa which was still, about a liter between us on a hot day, plopped on our table, not poured, no ice in sight. I dared not ask for water for my dog. We all had some kind of tatar, which was not made of tatar suitable meat and tasted bitter. Bread was tasteless and very tough to cut and chew, kaviar was warm and fishy. They looked nice though. No one asked if we were happy or wanted anything else. Boyfriend had to go ask for menus again when we considered dessert. No offer of more drinks. They had various cheeses served with chips and biscuits, cake and icecream with fruit. I asked if I could maybe have a cheese platter with fruit instead of the chips and biscuits, but no, that was not how they served it. End of story. Even though I explained that I'm on a lowcarb diet due to a stomach disease. At this point we had a new waitress who at least had the decency to crack us a little smile. Boyfriends mother wanted coffee, but since we weren't really feeling the place any more asked for it to go, no can do. She ordered a latte and got a large cortado. When she asked about sugar the single sugar pack was waved in her face. We paid and left. On our way out we passed the first waitress who was standing in such a way as to suggest she was supposed to greet us goodbye, but not a word or a smile crossed her lips. Worst service experience I've ever received except for maybe the cheap all-night pizzerias! We ended up going to Flora's cafe for dessert where they were happy to tweek a plate for me and we ended up staying for hours and 3 servings of drinks and snacks.

You walk inside a little shed with a fireplace, a couch and a couple of seats (this is in the winter - in summer there are plenty seats outside, too) with a jewelry shop attached to it. The prices are in no way cheap, no ma'am, but the coffee is incredible. And I'm mean INCREDIBLE. It's been a while since I had coffee this great. If you're not in the mood for this, however, you can also get a glass of cava. This is Gilleleje, after all. Also, it's fun to sit here just to get a feel of the community. Listening to the conversation inside By C Jewellery, you'll get a feel for the locals and what their primary topics of discussion are. Here everyone knows everyone and that might be part of the reason it feels so homey.
