Add to that some delicious food and drinks and you create something special. Out of the group I was with everyone enjoyed their meal. I had a salad that seemed to have every random thing you would or could put on it... And strangely it worked. There were two kinds of cheeses, four kinds of lettuce, three kinds of fruit, olives, nuts, artichokes and a bunch of other stuff I couldn't keep track of. Each bite was different but somehow didn't over stimulate my taste buds. If you make it to the islands of Suomenlinna, the place is still hard to find (over the bridge across from the museum and on the north side of the drydock) but worth the journey.

Since it was not the hottest of summer days the waitress fixed us up with a couple of blankets to stave of the chill. I noticed there was a wood burning sauna and shower facilities for those visiting by boat. The food arrived in good time. My option was the meat dish of the day consisting of a succulent pork belly with creamy mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I was impressed with the dish, everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh and delicious. My lunch companion enjoyed the pyttipannu 'with a twist'. This dish was a pan fried mixture of potatoes and pork prepared in a Dijon sauce served with a fried egg on top. As I remember we were around 35 euros for lunch and a couple of non alcoholic drinks. This I felt was reasonable given the quality of the food and surroundings.

It has a porch where there are some tables and outside there is a small hill few meters away where you can sit and have a great view. They have lots of cakes and desserts. I saw they have also a soup of the day. Everything was quite good and fresh and the service was friendly. A good spot to sit and enjoy, especially on a summer day. On the downside, there were lots of birds that were a bit annoying. They were around us looking for food and they were also coming into the cafe when people forgot to close the door when coming in. There were signs everywhere to remind people to close the door and not feed the birds! But even so I found this cafe very nice!

Prices aren't that high seeing as it's located in a major tourist attraction. I got a can of beer and it was €6 which isn't terrible. It's right next to a small toy museum as well, which is super cute. They have some small lunch offerings (we had sandwiches and spinach pie) and a huge variety of delicious desserts and cakes. The food was good for the price (about 6€ for a sandwich), and the desserts were exceptional. It's a great place to stop and linger for a while with a pot of tea to take a break from sightseeing around the fortress. Sweet spot!

You can't find proper bagels anywhere in Helsinki and I jumped for joy when I heard about Brooklyn Cafe for the first time. I've been there several times and every time I hope for things to have improved. The truth is that the coffee isn't among the best in town and sadly the bagels are a bit disappointing. I've had both dry and soggy bagels there, as well as ones that lacked taste. The location is good, the place is sweet and they have WiFi. The service is very nice and there's a good vibe. Loved the three tiny and colorful tables they had outside during the summer. I really hope they'll improve their offering - I'm still willing to give them a chance!

We made resvations as we had been told the crowds had gotten large since ownership had recently changed. The only thing that had changed was how unkind to staff was. The lady with the fuschia hair was very kind and so helpful much to the dismay of the two other women. The two women with the darker hair - one had a pony tail( acted like the manager) - so rude openly laughed at is for our accents when we said thank you. - Very heartbreaking as this place held such charming and important memories.
