The staff were very friendly and made a fuss of me for my birthday, which was very appreciated! I had the Victoria Sponge cake, which was vegan-friendly and delicious! The servings were *very* generous! The rest of my group enjoyed their cake as well as flavoured hot chocolates. We really enjoyed the vibe here, the friendly staff and above all, the excellent food and drink. We'll be returning! :-)

Mothers Day Surprise!…read more We wanted to take the Mothers somewhere nice and out of town and had seen The Garden Kitchen had been visited by a number of our friends and family on Facebook, all giving great reviews and I can see why! We arrived for final service at 6pm and as you can imagine it was very busy on Mothers Day. The maître d' came straight over to us to let us know how long it would be until we were seated and continuously gave us progress updates. Whilst waiting we perused the small shop of local produce, had a drink and soaked up our surroundings. The Tea Room is a new addition to Holden Clough Nursery being built in the last few years, but looks like it should have always been there! It is beautiful and sympathetically designed to its surroundings. So, the food....WOW! I'd seen pictures but when our Afternoon Tea arrived on a mini picnic bench I felt like clapping!! (In fact, I think I did!!) Such a great idea and adds a little bit of originality and quirkiness to your experience. Everything on my picnic bench was delicious. The Mushroom soup was silky, creamy and full of flavour. The mini Roast Beef Dinner served in an individual yorkshire pudding was beautiful and of course came with a little jug of gravy and beef was tender and pink. The scone was fresh and light with jam that had just the right sweetness and fruit mix. My other main highlight was the Rocky Road, I'm not usually a fan because its too rich and sweet but O-M-G this was amazing. I still find myself thinking about it now two days on. The chocolate melts in your mouth to find small nuggets of biscuit and mini marshmallows.....all washed down with a great cup of coffee. John & Kate who own and run The Garden Kitchen have done a fanstastic job transforming Holden Clough Nursery over the last few years. The service, quality of food and surroundings are 10/10. The cakes you got was a scone. A mini red velvet cake, a heart biscuit, marshmallows with chocolate, profiterole with white chocolate and a mini love potion in a glass boot. My Mum went for the lamb and goats cheese burger that was divine! The lamb was cooked to perfection with it being pink in the middle and served with a yummy mint yogurt dip and sun-dried tomatoes. I was stuck between the club sandwich and BBQ pulled pork open sandwich. On recommendation I went for the pork, which was served, on sourdough toast with melted Monterey cheese - heaven! I was having food-envy looking at the lamb burger but was not in anyway disappointed with my pork. Finishing off our meal with the Parlour's specialty - ice creams all round! I have a new found love for the homemade lemon meringue cone... There is so many flavours including apple pie and the originals too - its an ice cream lovers heaven! Our leisurely lunch here was fab and they are also promoting the "Super Club" on the 18th of July that is a diner's paradise! The road up from the Penrith side is nice & bendy with a few hairpins. The road from the Alston side is fairly straght with curves to excite. The police like these roads also so take care. The success of this deceptively simple dish (sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomato) is the ingredients. These were very good. We were starting out on the Hadrian's Walk trail so each ordered a packed lunch - and again The Wallsend Guest House gave a stand out performance - making us a sandwich to order and then pointing us to a wide range of fruits and snacks so we could choose what to include. For evening meal, the King's Arms Inn is very good. Thank you to the wonderful staff of the Wallsend B&B. Our only regret is that we stayed with you first, at the start our week walking the Wall, as we've compared all other B&Bs to you and none have come close.

The specials listed on a chalkboard sounded quite nice. As another reviewer mentioned, when you arrive at the tea room you order and pay at a counter on the far-side of the cafe. A waitress will bring your drinks/food to you at a table of your choosing when it is ready. The restaurant was previously open for dinner, but I see on their web site that they have reverted to daytime hours only due to unforeseeable operational issues. What a shame, as Brampton is really about a 20-minute drive and there are few other restaurants directly in the area for dinner.

As for the human food that was also disappointing when the macaroni cheese that sounded so nice on the menu arrived it was cold tasteless and looked as though it had come out of a tin.
