Very disappointing apfelstrudel and service! I had been there five years ago - the apfelstrudel and service were excellent! Remembering the excellence, I looked forward to a return visit. The older male server was very rude, abrupt and not customer service-oriented at all. The apfelstrudel was not freshly baked but tasted like it had been sitting there for at least four or five days. Perhaps, it sat in their display case due to slow business. It was simply AWFUL!!! As many others have mentioned, The Sound of Music tour sends you this way. We had 40 minutes to see the wedding church, shop, and get a coffee and cake. Only a small percentage of our bus stopped here so they weren't very busy. I had a coffee and Esterhazy torte. The Esterhazy Torte was as good as any that I've had (and I've had many slices). The two women working were friendly. There were even non-tour customers there. My visit was in October when things are less busy with tourists. read more

Refused to accept card payment and directed us to an ATM which charges €5 per withdrawal, clearly in cahoots. This place should be shut down. read more

Stopped by this little cafe while on the Sound of Music Tour - and as recommended by our tour guide. She had been talking about the strudel all morning so many of us came here to get it. Got appel strudel with vanilla sauce. It was good but not as sweet as expected. It's a cute little cafe - right across the Church in Mondsee. read more

As others mentioned and I should have done my research, the sound of music tours send you this way. Where to sit or where to order was confusing and the staff was not polite. Even having a hand held computer our order was wrong. Incorrect soup and missing kaffe. When the soup was brought and indicated it was incorrect the server shrugged and turned away. Assuming he didn't know how to speak any English, but it was still annoying. If they cannot handle the quick influx with the tourist crowd, don't have the tours send people your way. The strudel with vanilla sauce was ok, but not worth the hassle. I would never recommend anyone come to this location. read more

Stopped on Sound of Music tour, and was recommended by the guide. Although the place was cute looking, it was not a unique aspect because all other cafés along the strip were identical in looks and view offered! I empathise with them that there were lots of touristy types all at once, but the staff were very grumpy and didn't seem to want to be there at all. They dismissed me testing my German, literally slid the apple strudel across the table at me, and came and asked for my money while I was mid mouthful. In saying this, the strudel was very nice... But where isn't strudel nice in Austria? read more

Stopped here during out Sound of Music tour. The place is small, cute, good food. My family ate a variety of things...soup, goulash, frankfurters, potato salad, cakes, coffee, tea. All very good for a quick lunch as we didn't have so much time. The servers very nice, fast and friendly and the place is clean, bathrooms included. Its in a very touristy location so the prices are slightly higher but not too bad. read more

The warm Apple strudel here with warm vanilla icing is delicious!! The Apple strudel with vanilla ice cream looked very mouthwatering as well. The service was very fast and friendly. Unfortunately it is pretty pricey for the size portion you get, however it is worth it! There are tables both inside and outside. read more

Was only here for dessert, cafe, and mulled wine. They were decent. The waitress that we had was painfully inexperienced especially when there is an influx of customers. Like most said, kind of steered here on a Sound Of Music tour. My wife had a chocolate cake which was very nice. I had a tart that was a pie crusty bottom lines with chocolate, then filled with a heavy cream and glazed raspberries on top. It was good, not amazing. I had a coffee and my wife a cappuccino, they were not impressive. We live in a Berlin and are used to German world style coffee, but thought theirs was way, way too bitter. €15 with the tip. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but it was a cute place with good deserts. read more

Because the Sound of Music tour stops around here, many of the tourists are directed to this cafe/bakery. I think this leaves the workers disgruntled because we had subpar service when we went. We were seated immediately and received our order not long after. Originally, we had plenty of time to sit down and enjoy a quick bite. However, our waitress ultimately went MIA. We were getting worried because we were on a time crunch and our tour was going to leave. We probably had about 10 minutes left (including a 5 minute walk to our bus) and still no sign of the waitress (despite trying to get the attention of multiple servers). Eventually we didn't care and were about to leave, but were finally were able to get a server's attention for the check, put some money down, and ran. I understand the servers probably get annoyed with tourists, but this was inexcusable. If you're planning on checking out Mondsee, do your research beforehand and go to another cafe (especially if you are on a tour and have limited time). read more

We stopped here during our 1 hour break from the sound of music tour. It has a very inviting and warm look to it. The service is fine but the food is great. Even simple food tastes fresh. We ordered the chicken noodle soup and the chicken and cheese sandwich. Both were great. The apple strudel was divine. With coffee and the above items, our bill was €30, which was more than what we expected. So, like most Austrian establishments I frequented, this place too is on the expensive side. read more
