They have a very cool gift shop that you can browse while waiting and we hadn't even seen half of it before our table was ready. The staff was so sweet and concerned about us in the weather. We received water as soon as we were seated and then ordered the Birthday tea. You can buy any of their teas and you can purchase any of the tea sets you see around the restaurant. Every time I looked around I saw something new! We ordered grits, hash browns, French toast and avocado toast. Everything was tasty and the chef even stopped by-which is always a nice touch. The staff even sang Happy Birthday once I informed our server it was my special weekend. The chef gave me bread pudding-now I'm not a bread pudding fan, but it was very good! There was just enough crispy bread and a very smooth and sweet sauce on top. All in all, the space was clean, the service was excellent and the food was solid.

Picture a place that transports you into Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. That tables are all themed according to different characters. The waitress dressed like Alice. A small store - the Rabbit Hole - where you can shop while you wait. This shop has all sorts of merchandise that is Wonderland themed (as well as some huge, excellent cake cookies). Welcome to the Hatter Cafe. This is one of two spots you see recommended for Mentone, Alabama, which is on my route from Nashville to Rome, Georgia. The drive up to the place takes up up a road with some beautiful scenery. You pass through the town of Mentone and the Hatter Cafe is on the right. This is also a bed & breakfast for those wishing to visit nearby Desoto State Park, and its falls, or Cloudlands, which is a bit further. I have included pix of the BnB. Only 2 rooms, but each has a hot tub. The menu is limited and focused, although there are ample choices for even the choosiest of guests. Not surpringly, they have an ample selection of teas (and coffee for the non-tea lover). We sat at the Humpty Dumpty table and decided on the Ribeye with both Mushroom Gravy (mine) and Peppercorn Sauce (hers). Meal starts with a salad made from local produce, which was clear from the freshness of the tomatoes. Off to a great start. Then the steak. The sauces are on the side, so you can opt in or out (in other words, don't be afraid to order one). Of the two sauces, I thought I would like the mushroom gravy more, but the peppercorn was phenomenal. Veggies also local and prepared to perfection. This is one I would gladly return to in the future and may even book a room the next time. Thanks to the staff for allowing us to preview the rooms.

I didn't expect it to be half full when I went in with only one car outside, it must be a local favorite. The menu has not only classics but some interesting twists too. We were told to grab a menu and sit anywhere we wanted. Then once you know your order you place it at the counter & pay. I got the breakfast Panini with avocado added. My husband got a half chicken salad salad and a glorified grilled cheese. We also got a pretzel salad to try. Portion sizes were great, the food was delicious and inventive. I loved the ginger citrus dressing that was for the salad, I even asked them where it was from. We were told they make it in house. The pork in the grilled cheese tasted so fresh & flavorful. They also gave us water cups & their water is good ( must be filtered) We will definitely be back. Also a plus, they are open earlier then a lot of other eating establishments.

The girl who took our order was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick from the moment we walked in. I ordered Dad's Egg Sandwich, and Mom got the Vegetable Frittata. The bacon on my sandwich was the standout--nice, thick, and perfectly cooked. My only complaint is that the menu mentioned garlic, but I honestly couldn't taste any. If you're going to promise garlic, I want to taste garlic! Mom really enjoyed her frittata, although I think she's getting a little tired of egg dishes lately. She especially loved the toast and whatever butter they served with it. It almost tasted like maple butter, and it was delicious. The fresh fruit was also excellent (I happily finished Mom's!). My only real complaint is the size of the restaurant. It's a cozy space, but I can see it getting crowded very quickly during the breakfast rush. Overall, everything was wonderful. Friendly staff, fast service, and a delicious breakfast. We'll definitely be back!

Dave placed the orders My Eggs Benedict was ok. The hollandaise sauce was too lemony for my taste. It was off putting to me. The typical English muffin was replaced by a piece of a roll that I did not care for. I expected Canadian Bacon and received a few thin slices of ham and a piece of bacon. The hash browns were divine. They had the best crust and crunchy texture versus soft potatoes. 3/5 Dave's The Works Omelette filled with meats and vegetables was delicious. I wish I had ordered it. The hash browns were the best restaurant hash browns we have had in a while. 5/5 If you are in the area, please stop by and try Furst Watch. They have many breakfast options available. 4/5

Ambience was bright and fresh even on a gloomy day, largely white with black accents. This time went for a late brunch, around 11:30. Seated right away. Friendly, professional server, Kat. (That is, she asked the "are you ready to order?", "do you need anything else?" and "would you like a box?" questions at just the right time without intrusiveness so we could talk and enjoy our meal.) We had a blazing dragon fruit mix, citrusy and delicious for a brunch drink. $5.79. Avocado toast was about $13.50, tons of avocado and excellent toast. Side of two eggs. The Works omelette was cooked right , could only eat half, $14.50. Overall excellent, and filling meals on two occasions. Would strongly recommend and will go back.

She immediately gave us a senior discount. I see why the seniors were there. Breakfast for 2 is 10-12 dollars cheaper here. I ordered a ham, cheese, mushroom and onion omelette. It came with hash browns and toast. My omelette was way overcooked and didn't taste very good. The hash browns were very similar to the instant hash browns that are hydrated and then cooked. The grease or oil used had an off putting taste. 3/5 Dave had scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit and gravy. He said his food was ok. The gravy was white sauce and bland. He said the other breakfasts he had recently were much better tasting. 3/5 We will stop by and try other foods. This restaurant has been around since the early 90's and is close to homes and apartments. Many seniors live in the apartments close by and they eat at Rolo's at least 4 days a week. That's what the table of 8 seniors said. They were having fun and I couldn't help to hear what they were talking about. Something about paying rent at Rolo's.
