I am visiting from San Diego, California and my friends picked this restaurant because of its…read morelocation. It's in the heart of town and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The place is attractive. They do have a nice set up outside for dining. It would be a nice option on a sunny day to sit outside. We went on week night and service was pretty fast. Friendly service that also offers an english version of their menu. They have a good selection of drinks, cold and warm food/specialties. I had the pasta with parma and rucola in cream sauce. It was tasty, good portion and reasonably priced. They had good food under 10 euro. However, their specialty food prices are more than 10 euro. Our waiter was pretty attentive and polite. Average of dining here for 2 people with drinks and 2 entrees is just below 30 euro. Nonetheless, I am a fan of this place! I recommend it but make sure to bring cash with you because, just like many places in Kulmbach, they don't take plastic/credit cards.

An astonishingly rude and humiliating experience at Café Florian…read more I arrived hoping to enjoy a pleasant lunch while exploring beautiful Bayreuth. Instead, I experienced what was easily the most unpleasant restaurant encounter of my visit to Germany. Upon entering, a waiter informed me that all tables were occupied but offered me a seat at the counter. Perfectly reasonable, I thought. I took my seat and began reviewing the menu. Moments later, the very same waiter returned to announce that they were only serving breakfast and that he had been told I was not permitted to eat at the counter after all. He delivered this announcement loudly enough that diners at neighboring tables stopped their conversations and turned to stare. Thoroughly embarrassed, I quietly gathered my belongings and left. Apparently, offering a customer a seat and then publicly informing him that he cannot actually sit there constitutes hospitality at Café Florian. I cannot comment on the quality of the food, as I was never afforded the opportunity to try it. I can, however, comment on the service: disorganized, embarrassing, and spectacularly unwelcoming. Bayreuth is a beautiful city filled with wonderful people. My advice? Enjoy its many other establishments and spare yourself this particular experience.
