They have so many different types of teas such as your normal black tea, green teas, white teas, and specialty teas such as 'popcorn' or 'chocolate flake' etc. You walk in and it looks rather up market, and we went in there wearing casual clothes (jeans, trainers etc) but it's suitable for EVERYONE, and the staff are always so helpful and kind. You can also order food here, you can have sandwiches, which we have not yet had but we did have a look and they all sounded so lovely that we couldn't choose which one to have. We settled for the English breakfast which also means you can have unlimited cups of coffee. Again, I was stunned! I was in heaven! The mushrooms actually tasted like mushrooms, the bacon wasn't covered in fat, and the sausages were quality produce, no 'tesco value' ones. And the bread was so yummy! Infact, once we finished, I had to ask where they got their bread from :) We have been here a few times since and the service and quality of the food and tea/coffee has never let us down. Do try the teas, even if you are not a tea drinker! I only have tea sometimes and always have milk with it, but I tried the chocolate flake one and it was so lovely that I didn't have to have milk with it :) Even my husband liked it and he HATES tea :)

The coffee though is less good - soya based coffees are frequently lumpy and the choice of mug/cup is often incorrect. I used to visit this shop often when it was tiny and located across the road from is current location. Back then it was staffed by the owners, who were two of the friendliest blokes I've come across. The clientele is a mix of shoppers students and arty types. There is always a nice atmosphere in here and five minutes easily turns into a couple of hours. Some evenings feature late night opening and there are often great live bands or poetry readings.

I ordered an Amaretto latte, and some fries having found out they are gluten free, and cooked in separate oil so they wouldn't be any contamination. I would have opted for the jacket potato option, but was shocked and frustrated to find that they would contain gluten, as this is something that is naturally gluten free and is sometimes the only gluten free option at some places, and it shows me that either, they are too careless to simply make a jacket potato separate and avoid cross-contamination, or they are getting jacket potatoes from a source, where it just costs them pennies, and they don't have a clue what is in them, either option is poor from a cafe from a big name like BHS, who have 12,000 stores in the UK. The guy who served me seemed quite nice, he was quite young and we talked about the new "Living Wage", and I don't want to turn this review into a politics section so I will comment no further, but he did seem a nice person, and hard working, which is refreshing to see in a young person these days in the catering industry, especially compared to my service in Amigo's in Middleton. My coffee wasn't very nice, and it just tasted cheap and was near enough undrinkable, and was simply quite poor, however my chips were of a better quality. They were more like fries, and they were actually quite nice with a decent sized portion, I was also pleased to see they could offer chips like this and be gluten free, and alongside Nando's are probably up there with some of the best gluten free chips, I have tasted when out and about, although with them being just above average standard, it just proves how hard a side like chips is to get, for coeliacs like myself. A couple of sofas of the first level with a few chairs and tables dotted around, there are a few steps up to the next level or you can walk up the full set of stairs to another slouchy seated area. Down a few steps from the top seated level is a level of chairs and tables all nicely low lit and great to sit down over lunch or dinner with some friends or over drinks. Lovely. Pleasant seating area outside too for sunnier climates and it's one of those places where I've never had an ounce of trouble, no matter what day or time of the day I've ever been in. There's always some kind of funky music playing throughout the day and when the day has turned to night a DJ takes over for more tunes.
