I'm obsessed with Cafe Doña Nena! It's located in the cutest courtyard with a couple other businesses. I got an Iced Caramel Latte and my boyfriend got a Caramel Frappe. We shared a Lemon Pie. Everything was so delicious. I enjoyed my latte and thought the flavor was great, but it was hot outside so the ice melted really quickly. The lemon pie was amazing! It had the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and they were heavy handed with the crust (my favorite part!). They have plenty of seating in the courtyard. We arrived in the late morning, so many of the tables still offered shade. They had some fans scattered about as well. I can't wait to come back! read more

We saw this place on Yelp and found it for breakfast. It's in old town San Jose right next to the Tropicana in Plaza Don Carlos. From what we discovered the Cafe Doña Nena is connected with the bakery La Panaderia Clyde, which is in the back of the plaza on the right. We asked at the Cafe about breakfast and the gentleman at the cafe directed us there. We ordered a turkey with mozzarella omelet and French toast with th berries & local honey and a chocolate donut. (Total $ 18 US) and an iced latte from the Cafe. Both brought everything to our table it the adorable open air courtyard with a very nice subtle water fountain. The food was 5 stars and the coffee was a little disappointing because they were out of vanilla but the gentleman working was very nice. We are older and would say we might prefer something a little more "Mexico" with full table service but the food was fantastic - seemed like my early 20's millennial Daughter's genre a bit more than ours lol read more

We are in San Jose each year for about a month. We love this place. Really good coffee, extremely comfortable seating both outside on the sidewalk and in the atrium. The staff could not be friendlier. Great treats. The chocolate in the mochas is dangerously delicious. It's quiet enough that I come here to work. Decent WiFi, and right in the middle of the historical district. Even on warm days, the atrium is cool and shady. read more

Finally a really excellent latte in Mexico! A real small place it is in a hidden plaza off the street. The cafe basically just does coffee and some small sweets. The beans were freshly ground in front of me (should always be but so far not what I've found to be the case in Mexico). The barista added a little cocoa powder after the shot was in the cup which produced a really cool effect on the latte art, which was awesome! The temperature was perfect and the result was a nice smooth drink with great flavor. Definitely a must stop if you are in the area!! read more

What a bad experience. We've been here several times over a couple of years. Generally it's enjoyable though I wouldn't recommend the desserts, as they look and taste like they've been refrigerated for a few days. This time, to be fair there was a table of gregarious, demanding older adults in front. But from when we walked in, no smile, no "¡hola!", just busy. I stood back to wait, still unaddressed, and a couple of folks walked right up to the side of the counter where a sign says to order here. I let them go. The young lady delivered about 6 drinks to other tables. When our cappuccinos were ready she said, "cappuccino" and pointed to the two cups on the counter. Rude. Lukewarm too. At the counter is asked the older lady "why so angry?" She smiled, me? I said no and looked at the young woman who smiled as if nothing were awry. Not sure what I did to offend...but ouch. read more

Wen there on a Saturday afternoon with the idea of buying some of the desserts pictured here in Yelp. The only had two muffins and one half of an old cake that looked like it had been sitting there forever. Three employees were there and they did not allow my 10 year old daughter to use the bathroom if I did not purchase anything. I told them I would as soon as I took my daughter to the restroom and they still denied access. The said that it had to be paid before and suggested I buy at least a bottle water first.
