Menaggio - its a big town but not as touristy as Bellagio or even Varenna. This one even has a gas station, traffic lights and grocery store (big one I might add). Given that and being close to the dock handling all the tourist from other town, pricing is good, selection good and drinks are cheap. Got 1/4 liter of bianco for €5 or 1/2 for €10. Other entries were got was simple, wholesome and priced reasonably. Service could use some help but manageable. Tourist operators, do not use their restroom as stop over. They are very upset. Came here for a casual lunch during the afternoon. Service was fine and the views from here outside on the terrace are beautiful. I opted for one of their antipasta salads - which included salami, artichoke, cheeses, onions, meat, etc. It was light and delicious. Others in my party had the hamburger and eggplant parmigiana. Overall, casual spot to grab lunch at. Touristy i'm sure but it works. read more

AVOID. My family and I walked out because of the atrocious service. When we arrived, there were plenty of tables outside but were told we had to sit in the back of the restaurant. OK, that happens. We sat there for 20 minutes with no service and despite asking several times. Wait staff all looked busy but you could tell very little was being accomplished. After 20 minutes, I stood up at my chair, thinking that would at least get a reaction. Nope. I tugged on a waiter's sleeve and said we were inclined to leave. He looked at me snooty, did a little wave and said "bye, bye." This is the epitome of a tourist trap. Feels like a neighborhood place inside although it's on the main plaza of the town with lots of tourists. It's mostly for drinks and coffee with a little bit of food which was why we were here. The little bit of food was mediocre but this is not a fine dining restaurant. Its more your neighborhood cafe/bar with a little food. read more

Service is way too slow and they are not consistent. I ordered a pasta dish at about 1pm. A coulle sat down down next to me at 115pm. It's now 1:30pm and the couple next to me got their pasta dish before me. When I told the staff I hadn't gotten my pasta they acted confused and kept walking away when I was talking (I was trying to tell them if they hadn't started making the pasta yet, I'd be fine with the check). Great choice for a morning (or anytime) coffee and snack. Wonderful water views on a lazy day. Steps from the ferry drop off. Really friendly and efficient service. They even got us a number for a local cab. The coffee and pastries were delicious. Great spot to wait for the ferries or just enjoy some quiet time. read more

What's not to like!! When you see cafés like this in Italy, you know it's for coffee!! Or a beer or two. Maybe a croissant or 3 during breakfast but really, you don't come to dine. You come to sip. Once you understood that, you're sure to have a good time! I came to do just that. Post lunch, pre my water boat pickup, (45 minutes wait since they were coming from Bellagio). I came for cafe, espresso and lattes. Met really cute locals and their gorgeous dogs! Sipped my cappuccines and talked about George! George Clooney that is because all the locals know him, met him , sells him their food, flowers etc. The lady I met, he fell on his bike after visiting her shop. She fell bad for George! Madonna. It was cute :) Overall, fun spot! Perfect spot, waterfront! So much outdoor seating. Great coffee! And fun locals. What's not yo like. read more

Asked for the bill twice and they dismissively sent me back to my table, noting that there are table numbers when there were none. Waited on bill for 20 minutes after first request after I told them that I needed to make my flight. Literally trying to give them my money after they gave me service and they didn't seem to want it. Whomever said there was no bad food in Italy has never dined here. This food would have made Chef Boyardee cry. It literally tasted like it was poured out of a Sysco bag. Way too salty, even by American standards. Bland other than the salt. Pasta so overcooked it was gummy. We had the tagliatelle bolognese and the slow roasted beef (pot roast). We did love the staff, loved the location and view and even loved the Moscow Mules. Maybe it was an off night or since we were in between the lunch and dinner crowd (literally no one else in town was open) but I didn't want to waste the calories by eating this meal. read more

5 star setting for people watching and views over the lake. Cafe del Pess is set in the center of Mennagio's hustle and bustle and they have a lot of outdoor seating. I suggest coming for ONLY a coffee. My husband and I went when we needed a little pick me up and enjoyed sipping our cappuccinos watching the world go by. read more

It's got a view. I wish I would have seen someone else eating before me, but the pizza comes out at noon and I ordered at noon. This restaurant is bad! We had breakfast and the only acceptable item was coffee! Please save yourself a trip and frustration!
