One of my favorite brunch/dessert cafes in Cologne! Located in the downtown area, this spacious and…read morelovely cafe greets you with a quasi-red carpet and vivid colorful displays of chocolates, beautiful cakes, macarons, pastries, and sweet decorations. In contrast to many cafes, there are plenty of seats available and good for large groups, although they also take reservations if you're so inclined. The restaurant also serves several good options for brunch and breakfast options, and the service is friendly. I think this is a great place to meet up with friends and family for brunch, coffee, or a sweet and delicious cake in between shopping. I recommend the French vanilla layer cake. Two things that I noticed other reviewers commented on, which I will also briefly reiterate. Ordering system might seem foreign to some- you order your cake in the front where you can see the cakes, get a voucher, take a seat and then order your coffee, server takes your voucher, and will bring your drinks and cake together. In addition, we also noticed that on Sunday, they only offered large cups of coffee or cans, which was a bit odd. Another slight pet peeve that's standard in many German downtown restaurants/cafes but still somewhat annoying- there's a bathroom person expecting a tip for using their facilities, so you might need to have some spare change available. All in all, a cafe worth visiting. :)

This little pastry and coffee shop was the perfect place to warm up. Originally I had wanted a slice of yummy cake to go with my coffee, but the language barrier caused some issues here. I thought I ordered the chocolate Bailey's torte that looked so good in the glass case, but for some reason we got two coffees and then a hot chocolate with Bailey's liquor in it. LOL. Well, no cake for me -- which is probably good because I'm sure it had a zillion calories! My advice is that if you want one of the cakes, physically go up to the case and point to what you want. They certainly looked so good and I wish I had been able to try one. Oh well. They even have a whipped cream machine that dispenses fresh cream on top of every slice! Be still my heart. The cappuccinos we had were all excellent. High quality espresso and delicious milk. I swear Europeans have it made with their coffees, because they are always crafted with such high quality ingredients. The spiked hot chocolate ended up being our favorite beverage of the three. Happy accidents and all that. Prices were standard for a classy cafe, our total was less than $20 US which is a pretty great deal. The interior has an old school feel. It's not fancy, but comfortable enough. Our server was very kind, and she seemed to be a little surprised by the fact that English-speaking tourists were here (this does seem like a predominantly locals place). We were made to feel very welcome, even if we did get confused by a couple of the German words on the menu. If you are a tourist who enjoys being coddled and catered to, this isn't a good place for you. Note that European cafes are different than those in America. They don't rush you out the door, and service can feel slow. I loved being able to take my time, sip my drinks, and get nice and warm, but I wasn't in any sort of a rush. It takes them a while to prepare your drinks, so be patient and make sure you have some time to spare if you come here.

I had the hazelnut torte while my friend tried the chocolate marzipan layer torte. I love that the desserts aren't super sweet leaving you with a high! Always a favorite Köln establishment.

I decided to get one because the pastries looked so good and sweet. This location has a sit down area inside as well as an exterior takeaway counter. It took a little while to jostle the crowds to order (and busy locals had no problem shoving in front of us tourists), but eventually we were able to place our order. The staff here isn't the friendliest around, and the woman behind the counter's tone quickly changed when she learned that we weren't from Germany. No matter, I really wanted that pastry! Behind the counter you could see lots of tasty looking pastries, breads, pretzels, rolls, cakes, pies, and sandwiches. You could easily make a quick, filling, and affordable meal here. Prices were reasonable (my donut was less than a dollar). Inside, you can also get coffee and espresso-based beverages. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again, but it was a great detour for a bit of afternoon pick-me-up energy.

The latter wasn't overly sweet which I appreciated, and the bread was really soft, quite enjoyed it. Lots of pecan as well. €5.60 for both which is a bit pricey but definitely tasty!
