Local and welcoming watering hole.
I'm a bit hesitant to write this review because the Cafe Zeepost is such a diamond in the rough and I worry about it becoming overly popular and ruining the vibe there.
I happened upon the Cafe de Zeepost a tiny, local spot with about 8 stools at the bar and another 3 or 4 at the window seats purely by chance over a Christmas and New Year break from work in Nigeria. It became my pub of choice for the remainder of my two week stay in Amsterdam.
The music is an eclectic mix of international tunes from around the globe and changes depending on who's tending bar at the time. It's a great place to kill a couple of hours watching the flow of tourists and locals on busy Prins Hendrikkade especially at Christmas time.
Whenever I stopped in, it was always a mix of locals and a few folks like myself looking for a place to get a cold beer or something more potent to take the chill out of the holiday air outside. Regardless of where they were from, the staff and fellow punters couldn't have been anymore friendly. I speak very little Dutch but never once felt uncomfortable in the mix.
Zeepost is Ideally located across from Centraal Station and a short walk in one direction to the Schreierstoren, originally part of the medieval city wall of Amsterdam which was built in the 15th century and in the other direction to St. Nicholas Church.
If you're spending any time in the city it's worth stopping by for a cold Brand and if you do decide to visit the Zeepost it can get crowded and busy, so don't be an arrogant "tool" and you'll get along fine with everyone there. Proost! read more
