In my mind, the perfect cafe perfectly captures the "third place" concept - cozy enough to feel like home. I think the Dutch call that vibe - 'gezellig'. The perfect cafe also has a well-rounded selection of teas, coffees, sandwiches, cakes, and a solid soup of the day. Finally, because I am also slightly basic, the perfect cafe must be insta-worthy from the design of its store to the plating of its food and coffees. Sand's, Cakes and Bubbles is a perfect cafe. From the cozy decor, to the menus hung cutely on clothing hangers, to the beautifully garnished food and drinks, everything about Sand's Cakes and Bubbles is insta-worthy and gezellig to the power of lekker. And yes .. lekker. I have had my share of sandwiches in my lifetime, and the way they balance flavours in their sandwiches at Sand's, Cakes & Bubbles is really jaw-dropping. The truffle sandwiches is probably one of the best sandwiches I have had in my life, and don't even get me started on the soups! Amazing. Highly recommend Sand's Cakes & Bubbles if you're looking for a cozy, chill afternoon with a book and some oldies music playing in the background.

Granted, neither am I when I am in a new country and not speaking the native tongue, but usually at least bartenders start chatting with me. Last night, all that changed! I made new friends and the bartenders were great. They had a nice selection of wines and patiently poured me a few samples before picking the one I preferred. They kept the drinks coming quickly. They also have bar snacks including hard boiled eggs, apparently quite popular with the Dutch! This was definitely a local spot and I'm told that Meent is a really up and coming area.

There is plenty of space for large groups, as well as cozy areas for a twosome. Inside, FFF is basically a warehouse with food stalls, long tables, a brewery and bookstore. One of the most popular things to order here is called a Plank, which is basically a wooden board that they fill with meats, cheeses, tomatensoep, and other bites from a few of the vendors there. You can order them from the stand at the entrance. We stopped in once on a Sunday during brunch time, and almost everyone had a Plank of their own. Our absolute favorite part of this place is that we can enjoy the best cider in the world here; Lightship Cider. Do yourself a favor and get one. It's crisp, fresh, and flavorful. I'm obsessed.
