Amazing breakfast/brunch and service! The staff here cafe Rico really know how to treat all their customers right. You could tell from a mile away we were a group of tourist wandering around for a hearty breakfast. Unfortunately I don't remember or know how to pronounce the menu items but I ordered 3 things. The scrambled eggs breakfast platter, the German mini pancakes with vanilla and cherries, and the flamkuchen (German flatbread). First off I didn't know pickles would work so well with some scrambled eggs and buttered toast. The mini pancakes drizzled with the vanilla sauce (more like a custard) were the best pancakes I ever had. Finally the flamkuchen (bacon one) was delicious, super thin and crunchy with some chew as you get to the middle. Our table ordered about 20 items between 6 of us and we devoured everything. We did however agree that the cakes were more sour then we are used to in the states. Silly Americans right?

Mit Frischen Heidelbeeren & Boubon Vanillesosse (Pancake with Blueberries & Boubon Vanilla) + cup of Hot Chololate

I ordered the Mit Frischen Heidelbeeren & Boubon Vanillesosse (Pancake with Blueberries & Boubon Vanilla). This is a large (~12inch diameter) German style pancake which is thinner then an American pancake, but also more dense. This was a delicious breakfast treat that was surprisingly filling. I highly recommend this for anyone like me who enjoys a sweet breakfast. The hot chocolate was also great (not as sweet and creamy as the Coco from the local Cologne Chocolate Museum restaurant). The ambience is very nice. This is a quiet cozy cafe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. As with most German restaurants, beware the outdoor seating as Germans appear to love the taste and smell of cigarettes with their food. We had to move inside as the tables on all sides of us lit up. I tried some of my wife's apple pancakes, and immediately realized I had made the right choice with my blueberry selection! :-) The apple pancakes were tasty and quite healthy (we didn't taste any cinnamon), but simply we're not very sweet. I was in the mood for a sweet breakfast, and the blueberry pancakes with vanilla sauce delivered. I definitely recommend this venue for a delicious and filling breakfast.

Breakfast for Two

This place was phenomenal! The food was so fresh and hearty. We enjoyed the breakfast for two, which was so filling. The OJ was freshly squeezed, and the tea was nice and hot. I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking for a classic and calming establishment.

I got the Farmer's omelet. It was good but was probably something I could make at home. Cheese platter was ok. Service was good. Main highlights is that this place is open Sundays, outdoor area, and cakes look fantastic. I took one to go and will try it this evening.

This restaurant doesn't need another 5 star review but I'm giving it to then anyway because this place is so freaking good [I'm pregnant and food is basically my life right now so I feel like that means a lot coming from me]. Decided to check this place out based on other yelp reviews and it exceeded my expectations. I left feeling euphoric and repeating to my fiancé "that was so good!!" I had the blueberry German waffles with vanilla bourbon sauce because I had seen it in another review and it sounded amazing. It did not disappoint. In fact, it may have been the best pancake I've ever had in my life. The vanilla bourbon sauce came on the side and looked a bit like pancake batter but it was truly delicious. My fiancé had the scrambled egg breakfast with all the topping options (ham, bacon, tomatoes, herbs, cheese, mushrooms). I'm not super into scrambled eggs but these also might have been the best scrambled eggs I've ever had - cooked to perfection they were fluffy, moist, an super flavorful. Plus it came with a basket of bread and butter. We both had lattes which came out with plenty of frothed milk [my favorite part of any coffee] and were delicious. Restaurant was very cute and our waiter was super friendly, speaking to us in English and not making us feel like jerks for not speaking German. Oh yea, and the menus are in English which makes ordering much easier! We will most likely be going back later this morning for our last meal in Cologne.

Nice coffee ;)

Situated on the corner of Rudolfplatz, Cafe Rico is one of the few places that offer heated outside places, even in the cold season. Modern and attractive, if you are in search of a quality coffee brand to enjoy, you will find it here. The variaty of drinks is quite big and the prices between the limits of acceptance. What I really enjoyed are the spacious tables and very cosy sits, that you can make even more comfortable, with the pillows that are lying around. However, there are also few negative parts. One of them would be the music. I can hardly remeber to hear anything, and if yes, nothing suitable to the rest of the ambient. An other negative aspect, and which actually made me take away a star, is the organisation. Making your costumers to wait about 10-15 minutes for a reciep, is not how you earn them back. Fazit: Cafe Rico, thank you for the nice atmosphere, I had a real good time, but this time is just a simple goodbye, not a see you soon again!

Excellent cakes

However, we didn't order anything roasted. They are known for their coffee roasting. Since it was lunch time, we ordered lunch instead of breakfast. My wiener schnitzel was perfect and the man's saffron risotto was delicious. Pleasant but slow service. An decent place for a quick lunch, especially when not many places are open on a Sunday. Just be prepared for slow service, even by European standards. Boring review, I know!

We dined here for brunch after we walked by other places in search of a place that served omelettes. Because it was a cold grey day, we dined inside which was very cozy and right next to the coffee bagging / roasting area. You don't get much of the smell in the front but in the rear of the restaurant. I unfortunately did not have the omelette. My breakfast came with a glass champagne and a variety of meats and cheeses including lox, ham, salami, and manchego. It was served with a basket of breads which just didn't do it for me... Only the white bread was toasted. I need my bread either hot and fresh or toasted. I would definitely suggest this place as a pit stop for a light breakfast and coffee.
