See I love coffee a great deal. I appreciate the fact that my coffee was served in a homey looking ceramic mug. The whole place has a homey vibe going. Seating is limited but they do their best to accommodate groups. There's a local Street artist that paints dogs and cats freehand and he's responsible for a lot of the artwork in here. The artist is pretty damn amazing and he charges almost nothing for his work. This place also hands you a napkin and colored markers to draw your own piece of art and they'll even let you tape it up on their walls. Very cool coffee and tea spot. Like others stated. The neighborhood is FULL of amazing art on the concrete walls of buildings and alleyways. I posted some of the artwork so you can get an idea. It was so nice. Gente Feliz Cafe is small and cozy. There is art on the walls and Chilean decorations. You feel like you are at someone's home. On our visit they had live music/dancing by staff members and there was also a man with an amazing voice that played the guitar. THE FOOD: We started the meal off with a personal ceviche platter. It was delicious; fresh, sour from the lemon, and it hit the spot. After the ceviche we dined on a Pastel de Papa with ground beef at the bottom. It was really tasty!! THE TIPS: I would definitely suggest Gente Feliz Cafe to experience some Chilean cuisine, Chilean music, and walk the beautiful nearby streets of Valparaiso for the art! It was full of locals, which is always a good sign. They have a complete coffee menu, as well as pastries, cakes, breakfast and sandwiches. Unlike most museum cafes, PuroCafé wasn't overpriced, and it's a warm and colorful place to slip into another time period making it very fitting with the museum. PuroCafe has been in Valparaiso for about 9 years serving some of the best coffee in the region. This is their second location - a "heritage café" since the building is part of Valparaiso's history.

For the die-hard aficionado, finds like this don't happen every day. Quick, polite staff give you a run-down of what's what, take your order when you're ready, and turn it around very quickly. Two to four servers manage about eight tables downstairs and a banquet-room upstairs without missing a beat, moving very swiftly around the floor while being courteous & relaxed with customers, never making you feel rushed. The first surprise with the food is that the presentation is very showy. Many dishes look a little like tropical birds. Someone in the kitchen is not fooling around. These plates are large and very ornate, with bright pink sauce drizzles and architectural yam and yuca stilts strategically planted over carefully molded rice and thoughtfully distributed ingredients, announcing that this is no ordinary plate of food. And then on to the tasting. Perfectly cooked rice, firm but tender calamari, and fish marinated to perfection resting on artfully contrasting sauces. The ornate presentation seems almost out of place, but in no way detracts from the outstanding care the kitchen obviously takes in selecting ingredients, controlling freshness, and executing recipes with excellence and consistency. We walked in on a week-day evening after being underwhelmed by a well-reviewed restaurant nearby, and liked it so well we went back for lunch the next day, and were treated to exactly the same experience and food as the night before, despite the different mix of customers with more locals and faster tables. This will be on our list of required stops in Valparaiso for years to come.
