I've been cycling by a few times without really taking notice, but last night I was looking for a cheap place to eat and decided to check it out. There was a TV going showing some football match and most guests were watching this with a beer in hand - I'm not into spectator sports but besides some cheering when a goal was scored the TV didn't interfere with me enjoying my food and beer, so live and let live.
They advertise Italian food on a sign outside and the menu matched this promise, although the number of errors is a good indication that no Italians were involved in writing it. Pizzas, pasta and an assortment of classic Italian main courses and nothing that would seem out of place on an Italian menu. Since I was planning on quick and cheap I ordered a tuna and onion pizza and a schwartzbier, both of which arrived promptly. The waiter must have noticed the disbelief all over my face and he quickly explained that he'd ordered the same thing for himself a few minutes earlier and that he'd just have the one I ordered. As I was planning to have a quick meal this was of course a welcome gesture.
The pizza was surprisingly good and I'd especially highlight the crisp bottom and the generous amounts of real, fresh mozzarella cheese. Its weak points were too little salt in the dough (my guess is none at all) and the tuna which was obviously not the best quality, but at 5€30 I didn't expect top quality ingredients anyway. Also, there were some red onions mixed in with the common variety which is unorthodox, but they hadn't cooked long enough to turn bitter like red onions often have a tendency to do when heated.
I'm tempted to go back some day where I have more time and try their main courses, but at the same time it's not a place I'll go out of my way to eat at. If you're in the neighbourhood and looking for something not too expensive but still good it's worth checking out, though. read more
