We stopped by to grab food to go after a sunset cruise. Happy to find bbq after a week of tacos…read more We ordered fried pickles, a chicken sandwich with fries, and bbq chicken. The fried pickles were delicious with a light cornmeal coating served with ranch dressing. BBQ chicken came with fries and was juicy and sauced just right. I did not receive the chicken sandwich but rather a bbq chicken and rib combo served with fries. This appears to be a mistake but we didn't realize until we got home. Meat portions were quite large. Ribs were ok but I'm a rib snob so I wasn't overwhelmed but they were juicy and tender. I wish they gave us more fried pickles. I would return and recommend. Great location. Lots of tvs for sports, and nice view of the marina!

I'm gonna give this place a 4-Mexican stars out of 5. Meaning, for Mexico, it's pretty dang good!…read more The ribs go on HH from 2-4pm M-Fr. Two for the price of one and includes French fries and slaw. I order a combo special with ribs and chicken. The first time the chicken was juicy and tender but this time it was dry and flavorless. It's all good it happens. The sauce is consistent and they have some spicy sauce you can add on. The baked potato is fine but only comes with sour cream so ask for butter while it's hot. I personally don't love the slaw but I have friends who do. Found out today the coconut shrimp is the best in the marina. It's got good natural coconut flavor and texture with the shrimp still shining through the batter. Good sauce accompanying the meal. It's a special not an appetizer. I love the location and the service could be a bit better but overall it's good. I come back for ribs and wings and sports.

This is what I would call one step up from a hole in the wall kind of place. The staff were very…read morenice and spoke enough English to assist us and they were attentive as well. It was recommended to our family by other white folks who raved about the tortilla soup. While someone in our group did order the soup, I don't like soggy tortillas so it wasn't for me. My mother described it as having ample chicken and avocados but nothing to write home about. My stepfather ordered the coconut shrimp which surprisingly came with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables (a plus in my book but not what I would have expected). The shrimp was very coconutty and came with a sauce that purported to be pineapple. I wouldn't say the sauce much resembled pineapple in appearance but was nonetheless a compliment to the very large and plentiful shrimp. I ordered the fish tacos, grilled, which were very disappointing. Although there were 4 tacos, of good size, they lacked in flavor and came with a sad pinch of cabbage a weird horseradish sauce. I would have preferred a fruit relish of some kind and it's too bad the fish didn't have much seasoning. The "pico de gallo" that was served as an appetizer was also really just tomatoes and onions with no "pico" and no cilantro, so that was also sad and unfortunately couldn't help to redeem my tacos. Having only tried 3 of their dishes I can't comment on the rest of the menu but I wouldn't recommend the fish tacos. One highlight that might interest others: It did look like they had an all you can eat ribs special which hungry folks might appreciate. All in all, it wasn't worth the cab ride there and back, in my opinion, but might be good for hungry folks who are nearby and not picky about their fish, or looking for something else on the menu. Certainly don't go for the ambiance, it's just a mix of plastic tables and chairs and more traditional wooden furniture.

There are places that simply serve food--and then there are places that become part of your story…read more Pepe's Tacos is exactly that for me. Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

Out front, the trompo spins over charcoal fire, hand turned, on display to the street. The man at the blade is a performer, part craftsman, part showman. He hones his knife between razor thin shavings of al pastor, then in a reflexive flourish nips the pineapple crowning the meat, sending a sliver flying only to catch it with a tortilla. It is theater, but it is also instinct. Inside, the crowd looks like the United Nations. A tour group from India next to a Dutch family with half a dozen kids in tow, the Canadians eye the Americans with deserved suspicion, and a few locals whose plates are piled high while tourists settle for modest portions. It is the natural order of things, and nobody complains. The charcoal scent in the meat makes clear this is al pastor's intended preparation. I have never had the pleasure of eating from a coal fired trompo before, and it is instantly apparent that this is the way it was meant to be. Someday, somehow, I will rig one of these up, because I need this in my life. Pepe's is not just a taco shop. It is a master class in tradition, theater, and flavor, with a dining room that feels like the world gathered around one spit.
