I went to Cabrillo Street Elementary in San Pedro, to enroll my kid but my experience was terrible. A woman in the office with the last name VIDACA was rude, incredibly impolite, disrespectful, inconsiderate and completely insolent. And the worst part was that the principal was inside her office with the door open and she didn't say anything! I was so disappointed that this lady could be rude and walk all over the staff as if she owned the school. Of course I grabbed my papers and I went to enroll my kid to Leland Street Elementary were I was treated with respect and my kid is having and amazing time. I don't have to worry about being mistreated by the first face I see in the morning!!! This lady should be fired! She should not work for LAUSD!!! read more

This new chunky office lady with glasses really has an audacity to think she can say her OPINION like she's getting paid to so. When Mayra was in the office we had no problems and she was kind but since she left someone new came in and has really been extremely passive aggressive many occasions not only to me but also to my husband and eldest daughter when they've gone to pick my son up. She throws a lot of comments to us because we choose to pick him up at the office instead of the gate. If you have kids at this school you understand how crazy the traffic can get especially because the school was built right on Gaffey st where there's many traffic lights and the school will call the cops on the parents for stopping traffic. I still make it on time to pick my son up but choose to just go to the office. When I ask the lady to call for my son she always has to sigh or make some sort of gesture to let us know she's mad and I will not apologize to her for asking her to do her job. Today she chose she was going to say something to me for "bothering her" because she had to call for my son, now she was not required to say this to me nor is she getting paid for it. She chose to say it, she has no reasonable argument but only hit me with opinions. In a different occasion my daughter came in and the office lady was chatting with a teacher about how she feels about us, that the teacher said something to my daughter as the office lady sat there with a grin. It's sad to see how sarcastic and passive aggressive she is that it only worries me to imagine how she could treat my son when I'm not around. Now for the staff and teachers, I have received many complaints about my son because he's "running during recess" "kicked a ball" or "scooted his chair in class and it disrupted the teacher". It is very clear that behind classroom doors teachers and staff have favorite children, and that is okay to like one kid more than another because they're not your kids but to treat them differently is not okay. Many times my child has had to eat his lunch in the office without a table provided to him because of ridiculous complaints like the examples I just gave, and many times my child has been hit or physically hurt by other kids at school and when I ask my son what he did about it he says "I told the teacher and they ignored me and said to go play". I just wish the teachers at this school gave just as much importance to my son being physically hurt as they do to him "scooting the chair and it being distracting". My oldest daughter went to this school she is 20 and an adult now and have given me MANY insight on what teachers and staff act like when there's no superiors around and the amount of things they get away with is absolutely ridiculous! This school has really disappointed me! I will let my son finish the year since there's less than a month left but I will be switching schools this upcoming year since the new lady in the office was my last straw...and for the school I really hope they can see how sad all these reviews are and can finally try and make some change for the better. read more

I can't believe I trusted this school with my daughter. I was lucky to have Ms Salazar along side my son when he was attending there, but after she left this school is pure evil and a complete sh*t show. I gave it a chance with my daughter, because the school is close to work and there are still some good teachers who actually care. The staff here really has some nerve. They do not take any complaint or constructive criticism the right way. They will call dcfs with false allegations when their staff alone needs help. Lets start with Ms. Patella who obviously needs mental help. She complains about the student to parents saying things like "These kids are driving me crazy" and calling the class "idiots" and looks burned out. Then we have the unprofessional Counselor Ms. Gastelum who always looks like she hasn't showered and had faded blue hair at one point (talk about unprofessional). She lacks in so many ways, I don't even know why she is a "counselor" and believe me, I am not the only parent who feels this way, because I've talked to plenty! They had a mouse infestation over the summer and you can smell it in the hallways, since then my daughter had to have an inhaler prescribed!! I came to pick up my child once and she is sitting in their office with blood running down her face with poorly bandaged butterfly stitches, that even the ER doctor was baffled!! What kind of school only has a nurse on certain days?? Claiming she ran into another student but then said it was a wall? This lets me know they do not supervise on the yard effectively. Let's not forget the time I brought my daughter pizza and cupcakes for the classroom and ended up staying because the teacher was nowhere in sight and they had a very young girl supervising a complete free for all in the class. That same week the teacher messaged me saying my 7 year old didn't come back to class after lunch? This isn't high school! How in the world does a 2nd grader get lost and then becomes the problem? The staff then accused my daughter of "dressing herself" because she has a unique style and likes to borrow some of my stuff. Sorry I allow my daughter to express her little fashion statement. They claimed she looks disheveled when the teacher herself looks like she rolls out of bed and has no patience! Your child will get bullied and nobody will return your calls or complaints for days even weeks! My poor daughter suffered stomach aches and anxiety because she was being hit by two boys and nobody ever addressed this and when they tried, they claimed "They are just being kids" The only hope this school has is Ms. McManess and the poor woman at the front desk that was the only help when I was frustrated. Beware! I made the best choice removing my child from this school. Since then my child is thriving, loves school and not a single complaint. The new staff, counselors and nurses at her school know what happened and have been a warm blessing to us! My coworker used to work there and she warned me about this and I should have listened, but like I said I trusted them with my child. These people have a special place for them. read more

This school is goood. I attended this school since first. Ms van my first grade is the best!! Also Ms patella can be a little rude to the students. But since I was the smart students I rarely had any problems . Mr hoxie is the best teacher you can ask for . He actually cares for your education and is caring . Lunch doesn't look like those disgusting school lunches. The milk wasnt chunky it was good . And the 5th graders care . If you got bullied the staff actually care. And like they barely wasn't any fights . This school is great read more

I cannot say enough about this school and their staff. They are so amazing and understanding their love for the children in there care is evident with every interaction witnessed. They truly care about the individual child, not the number they represent to the LAUSD. My family is truly blessed to have such a caring and nurturing school in our lives. And believe me THEY ARE THE BLESSING, not my child. I am sure my child has been the cause of numerous headaches. read more

If I could give this school a lower star, I would! My daughter has only attended this school a year & I have had enough. It's rated one of the lowest in the district & now I know why.... the principal and staff are unprofessional & my daughter's teacher seems like she could care less about teaching the kids. I'd rather pay for a private school than have her another year in that school. Don't send ur kids here unless u want them to be bullied, verbally abused, &/or learn absolutely nothing. read more

Walked into the office one day and found my kindergartener eating his lunch from a chair while kneeling on the floor. Eating from the floor like a dog. When I asked why they had my son eating from the floor, the older lady at the desk said that they asked him to sit on his chair and eat from his lap. If these kids are in trouble for ANYTHING that requires them to eat in the office, they should have a table to eat from. Also had many reports of "behavior" problems with most of them being that he played with a ball at recess when he wasn't allowed to, and running. I asked the teacher about the ball permissions and she claims to have given back his permissions on many occasions and she always had to take it away. My son tells me he never had ball permissions since the beginning of school. If she's correct, then how confusing that must have been for a 6yo to be told you can play and then not play so many times. Academically my son was great, but had these "behavior" issues all year. I'm not going to name any names but I've had nothing but bad experiences with this school. From teachers to office personnel. Lots of attitude from the front desks and teachers that just plain quit on you. Easy solutions to simple problems, but they would rather give you negative feedback than actually solve the problems. Kids can't run during recess? Let them race around the track in a supervised manner! I actually had this discussion with the school principal and she took a few kids including my son to the track and let them run out some energy while she supervised. I was under the impression that this was going to be an ongoing thing for these kids with too much energy, but she only did it one time to apparently appease me, and then went back to the same old song and dance of "behavior" issues. Don't bring your child here or you'll end up like us and apply for every other elementary school in the state of California to escape. read more
