I can not say enough about this place. If you want it and it has to do with the great outdoors, they will have it either in the store or able to order it for you. My last visit was in the midst of covid and they were "get 'r done" with hand sanitizer at the door, social distancing and masks. I happened into the "discount den" that is upstairs and found some bargains on a baseball cap, a Cabela's flea jacket and a flea throw blanket. I miss Cabelas tremendously. It puts its pretentious rival, REI, to shame. The prices are unbeatable. And I feel like there are always sales! You can easily find under armor and north face for 50% off. They even have things for your dogs (beds and treats). I stopped into this location while passing through the town. What a complete disregard for the customer now that most all are disgruntled about the Bass Pro Shop merger. You can even hear it in the conversations with every CS rep. I tried to order Winchester shells from Cabela's and without a doubt the worst experience ever. Multiple orders canceled and backordered and then billed for the items even though they didn't ship. To top it all off the two orders that were shipped from their location at 501 CLIFFHAVEN - PRARIE DU CHIEN, WI. Were shipped incomplete and still billed me for the entire order. Also please see the boxes in the pictures as they arrived were a complete and total cluster. The shipping guys at the PRARIE DU CHIEN, WI location placed 8 boxes of 12 ga winchesters in a very large box 24 x 24 x 24 which was waaaaay to big for the contents and they were all over the floor upon arrival. After 40 years of buying from Cabela's they have lost me as a customer. Being billed for a product that hasn't yet shipped isn't supposed to be their policy and being billed for items that weren't even shipped is a major complaint. After being on the phone for three days now and multiple hours Sam a CS supervisor offered me a $75.00 gift card which I was told would be emailed but after three days I called back only to be told by Jana the gift cards had to be mailed. After pressing Jana more about it she put me on hold and came back to tell me she was wrong and the gift card could be emailed in another 8 to 12 hours. Simply put the right and left hand at Cabela's don't have a clue as to what's going on there and everyone in CS including the supervisors all want to place the blame on the merger of Bass Pro which is another reason not to do business with the Cabela's side of the merger. If the idea of a huge building stuffed with magnificent examples of taxidermy, including an entire African elephant, freaks you out, then drive on, my friend. But you like outdoor sports that sometimes have a bit of blood and guts attached, and you are headed down I-80, this is a must. (There are multiple Cabela's retail locations and others may be even larger but this is the world headquarters, enough said.) All the usual Cabela's stuff is there and you can touch it and check it out and buy if you like without a shipping charge. There is also a bunch of value shopping. I found the cheap hiking boots I did NOT find at Sierra Trading in Cheyenne by looking in the "bargain cave"--$119 leather high tops for $50. And there are bins of really, really cheap stuff like summer water gear they are heavily discounting now that the season is 2/3 over. My 12 year old was in heaven getting a bow custom strung for him so he could take shots in the archery range. We were both proud that after the first shot the employee said "I can see you know what you are doing" and stepped back. Value of the bow he'll ask his mother to buy online: $125. Value of nicking deer target in the heart: priceless. There was a music event the night we were here and a sidewalk sale the next day and we were tempted to just book a room across the freeway, but had to move on. But our two hours in Cabela's are likely the high point of our coast to coast trip. read more

First come first serve, pull in pick your spot.(they have 53 sites; 27 full hook up pull throughs and 26 electric only back in and 6 tent/car sites and another Huge free parking lot for semis or boondocking. Prices from $20-$45 depending on what spot you take. Discounts of 10% for Good Sam and AARP, and 20% for Cabela's/Bass Pro shop members. Showers and restrooms but codes were not posted we had to ask the gal cleaning, but you could call or ask inside. Liked that it was Quiet, Level, Wide, Pull thrus. Mostly full by 6-8pm but several sites were still open the next morning read more

This location is the original Cabela's. The one closest to my house is huge, with a waterfall, more stuffed animals and an aquarium. I guess city slickers need more to feel impressed. But my visit to the this location proved to be very fruitful. I was clued in that the Bargain Cave might have some goodies for me. I found a coat that had been returned, "soiled." Well it didn't take me long to realize that it was only a little dust, and I wanted that particular coat because of all the charcoal grey that would not show car dirt. Instead of my bright, minty-green ski parka which would show grease in a heartbeat. So at 20% off and nearly brand new, that was a major score, and it was Gore-Tex, too! I also found a heather-y cardigan that I can wear during the Christmas season at the farmhouse with the family. And two cute sleep shirts. I'm not sure why a hunting store sells things like sweaters and sleep shirts, and I'm sure the prices are marked up to more than I'd rather pay, since I often shop second hand stores, but when a garment fits a particular function, I'm more willing to pay top dollar. I thought my brother would dig some of the soap. One smells like beer, the other like bacon. Not sure what that has to do with hunting, either, but the loving-life-outdoors theme is a popular one with me. No cushy, city-slicker luxury for this rural girl! I guess that's a section of the American demographic that is always going to be here to stay, so why not capitalize on it? read more

I have been a faithful Cabela's shopper for years. Today on my way back from hunting Elk in Colorado I decided to make the detour North off of I-76 up to Sidney NB to the original Cabela's. I understand that Cabela's has been bought out by Bass Pro shops. However Cabela's was aways a destination stop. What I walked into today was such a disappointment. Bass Pro shops needs to make a decision on what they want to make Cabela's into. Right now it's like a ship with no rudder. Where is the hunting merchandise? Redhead is not what I was looking for. Cabela's at one time was known for hunting clothing and accessories. Now it's becoming a casual clothing store? I can remember walking into a Cabela's and having a WOW factor. Now it's a eh factor. I'm having to seek out other businesses such as Scheels or Fleet Farm for hunting supplies. I know Cabela's went crazy opening so many stores that it water down the destination factor. These stores underperformed which caused the company to be purchased by Bass Pro Shops. My husband's shipped out in about 2 weeks but over a month later, mine still showed, "backordered, will ship when available." Another month later, I received an email saying they no longer carried my jacket and the order was cancelled. Two weeks after that, my husband ran across my exact jacket (same item # and everything) on their website but it was much more expensive. I sent my order information with the link to the product now available to their customer service people and asked if they would please ship out my jacket now that it was available and was told that my order was cancelled and I would have to reorder it at the higher price. Um? Excuse me? He was very discourteous and I'm glad I had everything he said in writing. I decided to print out the email string between Cabela's customer service and myself, my original order email, my order cancellation email and their website showing the product in stock but at a higher price. It's now 5 months later and I get a phone call from their "Executive Customer Service" person Sandy who received the letter I sent to Tommy Milner, their CEO and was going to do me the big freaking favor of allowing me to order the jacket at the price that I should have received it at 6 months ago. Not only was she going to ALLOW me to buy it again at the same price, but she was going to allow me to pay for shipping too! How wonderful is that!? I was so upset I didn't know what to say. I calmly told her that I knew she was just the messenger, but their customer service was horrendous and I didn't appreciate them telling me that they were "doing me this big favor" by allowing me to buy something that I bought months ago. I told her that I live in Texas and it's HOT now. Cabela's is the premier website for sportsmen to buy supplies online. Their prices are great especially if you shop from the Bargain Cave section of the site like I do. I've bought some shirts from them and I've been happy with what I bought but there are two points that should be noted. One is that they are really thick. Great for the northern part of America but not so necessary in NorCal. They are well made though and this observation has nothing to do with the quality of the product. The other thing is that my size is XLT and the while the torso of the shirts are plenty long the sleeves tend to run average length. Even with an extra large tall my sleeves are still too short and I'm not exactly gorilla man. It's a great place to save some cash when you buy your outdoor gear. read more

So if you are on I80 and need to pick up so gear, this place has what you need. The bargain cave use to be huge there and this last time I went, there wasn't much there, but they still ha e good deals and the employees know their stuff. We did a road trip yesterday specifically to come here to exchange a pair of waders and a coat that was purchased online because our local Cabela's in Thornton never has any stock of hardly anything when we are there. Well, who would have guessed the main Cabela's here in Sidney also has very limited stock as we could not find what we were looking for and went home disappointed to say the least. They have remodeled this store and took out the nice fish aquarium that was inside. Now they have crammed the aisles so tight you can only fit one cart at a time through them just like the ridiculous Thornton store. Huge lack of employee help in here we noticed, most sections it was difficult to find someone which blew us away. What has happened to the once landmark location? What a huge disappointment this place was and appeared that mainly retirees are working inside now and some were grumpy to say the least. The shoe area did not have hardly any places to sit down to try shoes on and I commented on that to the store worker who seemed they like could care less themselves. Another observation was the large amount of items imported from China and Vietnam they now sell. They discontinued the Cabela's brand of waders we wanted only to now carry the Herter's line which is all made in China. Probably our last visit ever to this store, as a Cabela's Club member for 20 years I have seen them slowly take all the good things away they once had here and no reason to ever come back any more. read more

I will say right now that I am not a sportsman. Therefore Cabela's is not a real good fit for me. That is not to say that I will not give credit when credit is due. I have been told in the past that just about anybody can find something here. That is if you are into being a sportsman or the country. There are lots of mounted animals here, depicting a huge diorama in the middle of the store with many animal mounts. Again, not my thing but impressive in it's own way. As far as merchandise goes it is a sportsman deluxe store! Every kind of fishing rod, outdoor clothing imaginable. Of course much more than that. There is a section where they sell ATV's as well! Outside it is really set up for people who are into the outdoor lifestyle. There is a place where you can bring your pickup with horse trailer in tow and unload your horses for a stretch as well as other parking specific places for what vehicles you are driving. When you enter in the main doors into the store there is a sign by a reception booth to leave your weapons there as you shop. At first it sounded like a joke to me but as serious as people are about the outdoors, the sign was probably quite serious. This Cabela's is the 'main' store. The headquarters itself for the company is based here in Sidney. They have various other stores sprinkled throughout the Midwest. So even though I did not find anything to buy Cabela's was a worthy stop and it is even more interesting where the company is based out of. read more

I have learned recently that Cabelas does not care about satisfying customers, but only overall profits. I ordered an item in December, only to have the back-order cancelled in January due to a supposed lack of availability. Less than two months later, they have made the item available online several times but of course at higher and higher prices. Not only will they not fill the original order, but now will only allow me to order 1/20th of the amount I originally did. They also change their order restrictions on the fly, leading to cancelled orders. Despite reassurances from customer service supervisors, they can't find records of previous calls and still cancelled the orders. Their store locations are not much better...sadly since I live near one of the largest. There are plenty of better companies to patronize! read more

I recently purchased an onX hunt chip for Wyoming, the $119 deal, with a chip to use in a Garmin GPS, from Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops. I initially traveled to the Sidney, NE store to find this, but they didn't have it. (They did in the spring, but not this summer.) So I had to order it from Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops on line. The chip arrived and it worked in my GPS. Problem was the stuff associated with the chip -- the ability to download onX to a computer and a smart phone didn't work. I tried umpteen times to communicate with onX via the instructions on the packaging that came with the chip, entered the serial number for the chip, etc., but nothing worked. I was ticked off, to say the least. I contacted onX customer service -- initially via email, then was given a phone contact because I requested a real human being -- then actually got a person on the phone to resolve the issue. Turns out the onX chip Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops was selling me was actually from 2017... FIVE YEARS OLD, which was why the code numbers and other stuff didn't work. onX made things good by walking me through the set up procedure and sending me a 2022 chip. But once again, Cabelas/Bass Pro Shops showed their true colors by trying to pawn off a less than current piece of merchandise billed as something it wasn't. I had a fairly low opinion of both Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops before they conjoined. Less of one now. Don't buy anything from the Walmart of the outdoors. They sell cheap crap that isn't worth the money. read more

I stopped in to the store to purchase a youth hunting rifle for my children for Christmas. I waited for over 15 minutes at the counter before I was even addressed by a clerk, and that was after she helped someone who came up after me. I showed her the rifle that I wanted to purchase, and no surprise...they do not even stock that particular firearm. So, another clerk came up to help me look at different options. They had only 4 youth rifles in the entire store. Then he told me about a rifle that would be on sale for the 6 hour sale on black Friday. As I was getting ready to leave, assuming that I would return to buy the rifle on Friday morning, he told me that he would call me and let me know for sure whether or not the rifle was in stock. I was sure that it would be, as the advertisement said that there were "youth models available". On my way home, I received a call from the clerk. Great, this is customer service! He informed me that there were no youth models in stock for the sale!!! What the heck!!! So, I asked him if he could order one in at the same sale price, since they did not have one in stock. He said he could not. That he could get one in at the regular price if I wanted to do that. I told him no thanks. I then contacted customer service, and shared my frustrations with them. The gal that I visited with said that not all stores carry all items, and that she was sorry. I said that it was bull to advertise items on sale, during an in store only sale, that were not available there. I told her it was faulty advertising. She said there was no control over that since the fliers were made "months in advance". You would think that customer service would make an effort to take care of a lifelong customer...someone who remembers shopping at the first store in downtown Sidney as a child. You would think their answer would be better than to make excuses and simply say sorry. Its fine. My business will now go to Scheels and Sportsman's warehouse. Thanks Cabelas! read more

I would have given Cabela's a zero star but the lowest you can give is 1 star. They did not honor their lifetime warranty on a pair of boots that I had when the soles fell apart. They claimed it was due to lack of use and not a defect. I've been a customer since the early 80's but since they refused to honor their lifetime warranty they have lost my business.
