On entering the car park I saw signs saying the car park was $5 per hour (more on that in a bit). I managed to park near the entrance and entered what looks like an underground bunker. No queues and admission for one adult and one child was $13. They took my parking ticket and validated it for 4 hours free parking - result! The centre is very impressive with a large Olympic pool to the left of you with the high diving boards. On the right is another pool and the kids area. Lockers are $2 per use, each time you open and close them will cost you $2. Changing rooms were a bit bizarre. There were 4 family rooms that you could lock but they were huge and very wet! There were other changing rooms open to anyone but the showers could have done with regular inspections. There was chewing gum and toilet paper on the floor. Shame! Onto the swimming and fun! There is a huge area just right for young kids to play around in the water with plenty of fountains and little slides to play on. Every 10 minutes or so the huge bucket would tip over and drench everyone underneath it. All the kids would make sure they were positioned ready to get soaked. To the right was a lazy river which went round in a huge circle. It was really strong and my daughter loved it. Up above it was a fairly fast slide which my daughter also loved. There is a height limit of 120cm for the slide. All in all, great afternoon of fun. Changing rooms could do with an attendant to keep them nice and clean.

Ashfield Aquatic Centre (gym): Profit over Professionalism…read more Hi, Imagine trying to work out in the gym, or mediate in one of their studios, and all you can hear is ads: Coles, Sportsbet, and 'free' Spotify, the culprit, spruiking 'a relaxed, cool place to be', followed by an ad for Alianz. Well, someone is going to pay and at Ashfield council's gym it's the customer. For 4 years music played over our heads without them. Now, as I try to get into the zone, relax and do some deep breathing or work out on the gym floor, I can't escape the ads - it's like someone shouting in your ear every 5 minutes. Ads don't bother everyone. But there are reasons for that. Studio 1 doesn't play Spotify. The customers can relax, listen to the trainers music (ad free) and do what they came to do and have fun doing it. And I notice that on the gym floor there are 23 people, 16 (?) of them are wearing earbuds or earphones. I guess that's one way to go. Ashfield Aquatic Centre is run by the council, and it is funded by taxpayers. Entrance fees are not cheap. So I cannot figure out how management can reconcile saving a few dollars a week with annoying and losing customers unless it's the 'monopoly thing': when customer numbers explode professionalism gives way to profit. Anyway, I've taken the time to do this to be heard. I don't expect things to change but I genuinely believe it is important to speak up and be heard rather than winge and do nothing. Thanks for listening. I won't renew my membership at the end of this month, and I'll try one of the many 24/7 gyms in the area (Anytime, Jets, Plus) that could be fun. As for other facilities like to pool, well, seriously, have you tried to swim here when it's busy? Cheers, Mark
