I'm at the age where my FB feed has less party photos, and more ultrasounds and wedding pictures…read more This year, I've been to no less than three weddings, and because they were weddings of people I am close to, my usual wash-and-wear hair routine just wouldn't cut it. Luckily, Status Salon in Katipunan has really competent stylists who aren't afraid to rise to the challenge that is my long, curly hair. A lot of hair salons have stylists that aren't used to styling curly hair, so it's refreshing that the staff at Status blow dried and styled my hair without commenting if it was 'natural' or whatever. Each time I've had my hair done at Status, I've come out feeling pretty, and happy with the outcome. Good job!

To be honest, I don't feel offended every time someone would think that I am, but it would be so much better if people would stop putting labels on me just because of the way I look (#TRUTH). Anyways, I went to STATUS hair salon in Katipunan to fix my hair problems. Growing out your hair is a totally difficult and awkward process and I needed help to style it so that people could finally stop telling me that I look like a freaking lesbian. Once I got there, I was immediately greeted by the friendly stylists. The girl who was staying at the counter told me that they have a promo for all Ateneo students. Students would get 50% (or 70%; I don't remember) discount on their hair cut. As I sat down the chair, the stylist asked me what style I wanted. He also gave suggestions to fix my hair issues. They did not disappoint me! After I got my hair cut, they also told me that they sell products like mousse and hair spray to maintain my hair's shape and volume.

Hair2Share is one of the year long products of Kythe-Ateneo. It involves snipping off at least 10…read moreinches of your hair (I think the extra 2 inches are needed to allow for split ends and other hair problems) and donating them to Kythe-Ateneo to make wigs for their sector - pediatric patients with chronic illnesses - who may have lost their hair to treatments like chemotherapy. The other guidelines about the hair e.g. should be straight and one solid color can be inquired about on Kythe-Ateneo's page. Every year, it's celebrated in the Ateneo community with one big week long event called Kythe Week where different salons agree to partner up and cut people's hair for free. There's an equivalent too for the boys (and girls with short hair) called Be Brave Get Shaved (BBGS) where you shave your hair in solidarity with the kids, but that hair doesn't go into making the wigs. I've been getting my head shaved for the past 2 years on Kythe Week, and it's so fulfilling, especially when I get to interact with the kids, explain to them why I did it, and see their faces light up and have them rub my newly bald head! It's gained much popularity in recent years, and this year is the first time where you can just go to Kythe-Ateneo's partner salons to snip off and donate your hair, and they send it to Kythe-Ateneo for you!
