In searching for a room in Reims, this came up as one of the highest rated hotels, very close to…read morethe top hotel which goes for 2x the price per night. Do not be fooled. This is NOTHING like the top rated hotel. Short version: If your comfortable with a hostel-type experience, this'll do for a night. This is not a value hotel. It is a cheap hotel. Don't confuse the two. Our room was dark (brown walls, brown carpet). The walls are thin. You can hear your neighbors (and they can hear you), the people in the hall, each clomp on the steps, every door closing, every toilet flushing (more on that later). They warn you that there is no elevator but not that the stairs are narrow. Don't bring big heavy luggage! We arrived in the evening, and checked in. The staff spoke enough English for that. They gave us a voucher for each night for free glasses of champagne at local restaurants. As soon as we got in the room, my GF wanted to leave. She was uncomfortable with the darkness of the room. She was ready not only to not stay in the room but to get on a train and head back to Paris. I convinced her to stay a night. This area of town does not have a lot of food choices within walking distance. We went to the restaurant on the first night voucher to find they are not open that night. WTF? We found another place for dinner returned to the hotel around 10. We then found the toilet would not flush. (It would fill to rim then slowly empty.) There is no staff at that time of night, only an emergency number. We did not want to stay awake waiting so we went to bed. My GF slept little due to the noise from the other rooms. In the morning, we walked the 10 minutes or so to the main part of town. We went to a different hotel, and booked a room there. That room was light and modern. The staff spoke fluent English. It was right in the main part of town with plenty of restaurants nearby. I walked back to the Azur to check out. Since it was after 10:30am they charged us for 2 nights. They did not ask how our stay was or why we were leaving early. I thought they cut us a break of 20Euros because we left so early but I later received an email saying that was a mistake and they charged me the extra 20.

This is an amazing Chateau and I almost hate to write a review as I'd love to keep it my little…read moresecret. The staff is superb in everyway. We didn't do the dinner as we arrived late but the breakfast is a must. When booking, make sure you book inside the chateau or in summer if you can't stand the heat, book near the restaurant for air conditioning-but just know that you won't be in the actual chateau. (Look into this for confirmation) We definetly will be back.

I'm giving this hotel 4 stars because it is one of the most interesting places I've ever stayed,…read morebut I really want to give it 3 stars because the accommodations are really just okay for the price point. This place is a centuries old castle that's been modernized. There is a lot of history, and really old art pieces and artifacts throughout the castle, so it's also a bit of a museum. However, to me it feels a bit run down, but maybe that's part of the charm. It was definitely not as luxurious as I imagined or hoped it would be. I'm a traveler, and during my life I've stayed in accommodations ranging from hostels to the most luxurious hotels in the world. With it being a castle, I envisioned a giant plush bed with lots of pillows and an ornate, beautiful marble bathroom. I got neither. Though it was all very clean, so no complaints in that area. We were in Champagne during harvest, and this area is more farmland than vineyard and, so it really smelled like a farm. And the flies were also abuzz. This is obviously not the hotels fault, but just something to be weary of if you come during the beginning of fall. We only stayed one night, and that was good enough for me. We had a nice time at the spa and great dinner at the restaurant, which are both separately reviewed. Our only disappointment, is that we missed out on breakfast, but there is no way we could eat again after the dinner.
