Jump ahead to right now, I finally managed to get my own affairs in order so that Sofafix could do what they do best and fix my sofa! From the very start, Steve was punctual and precise in his dealings with me. My sofas were taken in a state that could be best described as "ready for the tip". Steve and his colleague Jane moved everything for me and even helped with advice on what would work best when giving our sofas a new lease of life. Our entire suite (which seats up to 10 people) was recovered and rejuvenated in no time at all. The quality of Steve and Jane's work is simply the best. Our suite was returned to us looking as good as new. When I considered what they looked like before going to Steve, the finished result was nothing short of a miracle. It isn't just ourselves who have been impressed with Sofafix, we have had visitors who have complimented on our "new" sofas such is the quality of the work which has been done. I am very, very pleased with Sofafix, Steve and Jane. Together, they changed our sofa suite from an embarrassment into something we can once again be proud of. I've been to some High Street shoe repairers who have sometimes charged more than I paid for the shoes! This is why I was relieved to stumble across Dumas Shoe Repairs. It's a small, cluttered shop on the busy Coventry Road. The owner is a pleasant man who is great at his job. He completes shoe repairs in a couple of days for less than a fiver! That's around a third of what I've paid elsewhere! He also offers key-cutting services and I've enquired about repairing a stitch for my leather beanbag, which the owner was happy to help with. Parking is a little tricky in this area although you may be lucky enough to find on-street parking. Otherwise, you'd have to park on a side street that could be a bit of a walk.

Recently moved from down the road into the old Lloyd's bank, I'm glad the village hasn't been left with a dead unit, and expanded to a ajoining bridal shop. Eugenie and Elisa are friendly and experienced with a lot to offer. Alterations work on a week turnover (there's always quite a queue), but they have been known to do shorter jobs when people ring up panicking. They do anything from turning up your trousers to fixing up your wedding dress, by hand and machine. They have a little changing room in the back of the shop, so you can try on to do a fitting- and they'll always be honest about fittings and costings. (just please take your stuff in clean!) If you can't find what your after squirrelled in the many nooks and crannies of the shop- just ask, as there's zips, cotton tapes, elastics, behind the till, and less popular odds and ends like rucksack clips upstairs.

Most shoe repair work has to be left with them, and signs are ordered from an outside company, but keys are cut while you wait. I had many keys cut at this branch in the course of a previous job and never had a problem with a key not working, so in my experience the quality of work completed is very good. I have found this store more helpful in terms of general advice than the branch at the corner of Hertford Street.

Stuart has learned the trade in furniture restoration the hard way from an early apprentice to working with a cabinetmaker/restorer, creating and taking courses in Furniture Restoration and woodwork associated projects. From the initial phone call it was clear Stuart new his business, was helpful, very happy to give advice and understood what had to be done. Communication with Stuart was easy by phone, email and WhatsApp. A date and time was agreed to take the chair to Stuart and for him to show me how to do the work if that was what I was looking for or for him to take on the project. After seeing him at work for about 30 minutes, it was an easy decision to give the project to Stuart. Despite having ongoing projects in his workshop, Stuart gave me a firm price and time to complete the job. I received a WhatsApp message including photographs of the completed chair which looked amazing. We agreed a collection date, time and payment method. I picked up the chair, made the payment received an invoice - job done. From the first call on Saturday 8th August at around 13:00hrs to picking up the chair took 4 working days - amazing. Stuart is a craftsman and it was a pleasure to have met him.

There was one massive catalogue but I'm sure nobody will spend time flicking through all of that and it's not the same as seeing the blind in real life. I liked their range as they had some blinds where you can twist a stick to open and others that are pulled. Customer service makes a big difference but it didn't here because there wasn't any! I was making lots of noise but nobody came. In fact the poster saying to do fitting gave me more information about the blinds than anything! The prices weren't advertised but that's probably good because blinds can be expensive.

The staff are really helpful and often offer a delivery service if you are in dire need of help. The carpets are of very high quality, but they also offer a range of cheaper, less quality carpets at discount prices when they want to get rid of them! They are worth rummaging through or asking staff about because they are never worn or torn, but are still really good.
