Please do not support this business I understand some people consider this the only convenient place in town to buy hay, but there are other places to source it. I previously purchased dog and cat food here for our rescue work, but I stopped because of serious concerns about the animals' care. I have personally visited the property and seen the conditions the cats were living in. What I saw was horrible. Our rescue offered to help spay and neuter the cats, including covering surgery and vaccinations, but the owner refused. She continues seeking free cats through Facebook groups to use for rodent control. A friend recently paid to get two kittens out of there. My friend reported that they were confined to a tiny, filthy cage with no food or water when picked up. The kittens were dirty and smelled badly. Thankfully, they were rescued. We also rescued an injured kitten from this property and obtained the medical care he needed. The attached photos show that kitten. The owner has denied that he was hers, but we rescued him from her property. She claims people steal her cats when they go missing. I have personally seen cats run over on Highway 247 directly in front of her store. Without safe shelter, cats are also exposed to predators and dangerous conditions while trying to find protection. From what I observed, she does not provide adequate shelter for them. Locals have reported concerns about the care of animals on her property, including horses and goats. Animal control has visited the property. Others have reported finding cats crushed in hay stacks after seeking shelter between the bales. I did not personally witness those incidents, but the reports are deeply concerning. In my opinion, what I witnessed amounts to animal neglect, and it is cruel. Using cats for rodent control does not excuse failing to meet their basic needs. Please do not support this business or provide cats or kittens to this owner. There are other sources for hay and animal supplies, and I will be spending my money elsewhere. If you visit this place, adopt a cat, the owner cares about money and will sell cats so save a life and take cats from this disgusting place I do expect a response from her because she is defensive and cares about her damaged reputation. read more

Recently it seemed like birdseed was becoming the new toilet paper as far as shortages go. I couldn't find a good-sized sack of seed at any of the large retailers in Yucca Valley. Thankfully I remembered that C & J existed and made the drive out to Landers where I picked up a fifty pound bag for something like twenty bucks. They have several varieties of seed available and the two I've tried (with corn and without corn) have been well received by the wild birds in my yard. Someone even carried the large bag out to my vehicle which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. It's a well-stocked store with friendly, helpful employees and easy parking. Chick season, again. No water and food most of the time. Other vendors in the area are more responsible in their live animal sales. C&J continually has too many chicks so they are not being bought at the speed of competitive stores. Here the chicks are crammed in the chick storage area, in the dark wedged with the bags of feed and can't move around much. Then when they get even bigger (they are big now so very soon...) they are dumped in the back area where the older chickens and roosters are...that is filthy, they attack each other due to overcrowding, etc. Then the owners buy MORE...and this cycle of poor animal husbandry continues. Yes, they have a nice selection of items for locals but they continually take horrible care of the livestock/poultry/domestic animals they sell as is documented on various sites. Why don't they stop selling live beings if they can't take care of them OR if they just don't care? NOTE: Current bermuda hay stock is a) $1 more a bale ($14.99) than it's been and b) it's wet inside. With the hot weather upon us this is a mold disaster waiting to happen. read more

Great service with a personal touch! I've been using C&J for a little over a year now. They supply me with the food for my horses, dogs, goats, and hens... I had to have 3 bails of Bermuda delivered every month and was less than 3 miles away and yet was charged $10 per delivery every time. I used C&J 3 or 4 times and each time they did not arrive when they said they would, and did not call to let me know they wouldn't be arriving. They also promised they would call to let me know what time they would arrive and I never heard form them, ever. Never again. read more
