This was a great place to go at the weekend if I had a few quid for a new kit proct. I bought my…read morefirst Tamiya kit there at the age of21/22 It was a Tamiya XR311 plus radio kit (Acoms c ch) and chargers, batteries etc. I always believed his shop was in Coventry Road. Maybe my memory messed up on that. I recently heard that the shop was closed as Bob passed away a fw years ago. Very sad. That as well as Jum Davis Models in Marsh Lane Erdington was among my favourite places

For anybody who loves train models, car models or aircraft models, then Bob's is definitely the…read moreplace to be for you. In Birmingham, there are few and far between shops that sell such a wide scope as of collectors items, and this dwindling number is more than likely the result of a rise in internet sales in this area; So it's great that a place like Bob's has managed to exist throughout this climate. The store is surprisingly big inside, as appose to the small appearance from the street, and it literally stocks every toy/building hobby imaginable. There are boat building kits, train sets, die cast cars and tanks. Bob's also caters for niche collectors too, and there's a great selection of Star Wars models sold inside, such as star fighter ships. I bought my first scalextric from Bob's, and I used to have great fun playing with it as a young'n. (Writing this really makes me want to retrieve my set from the loft actually) Prices for scalextric cars aren't cheap, and tend to reach around £30 per car. But then again, the models are so detailed and delicate, it's definitely worth paying the cash.

I found them on Google and ordered a remote control boat, with 2 batteries and a charger by mail…read moreorder. It came the next day and all seemed to work well with the boat. However the charger seemed to have a fault and they had sent one battery and not two. I emailed them to say that the battery was missing, the charger ddi not work and attached a picture of the charger with the fault lights on and they did not respond. I then called them and they got me to resend my email to a yahoo email address and said they would get back to me in 5 minutes with the answer. They did get back to me. They said the person who picked the order admitted that they got it wrong and they would send another one the next day. From this you may be wondering why I have put 5 stars, I would normally put a lot less for this! They did want to resolve the problem and did so, but that is not what made it 5 stars. On the picture which had the battery charging, they gave me really good advice. They say said that I should charge the battery on the 1amp and not the 3 amp settings which will take longer but is better for the battery and so on. They also diagnosed the status lamp going red and said it is normal for that kind of battery. If I had gone to Amazon, I would not have gotten this help, would not known what to do and probably all I could have done was send it back. So going here to a shop that is online, but run by real model enthusiasts, meant I got advice that could not get from a normal ecommerce site. As a result I will use them again.
